Just got done with a move. My g73jh had just been collecting dust all week and I finally got around to booting it. Idle temps went from 58-59c to 65-66c.![]()
Anyway first thing Ive done was (of course), bust out the air cans. 8 quick bursts later, idle temps now down to 48-49c. Even lower than when I first started using the laptop...but I know they will slowly climb again.
Anyway, laptop is hella dusty. I was thinking just keep using the air can but I'd probably use up all of it in one cleaning and there are surely better ways. Any tips on the best/safest way to clean the whole laptop? Screen, keyboard, grills, etc...?

Dust your house more often?
You can use a Swiffer cloth for the surfaces and keyboard. Use air for the interior. -
Compressed air through the back vents and you will be surprised about the amount of dust your unit accumulate. Next the same through keyboard and USB and any port and finally open the bottom panel and more air.... is the best/safest way to clean the unit. Also, when don't used, close the lid... it's incredible the amount of dust that accumulates overnight over the keyboard.

Use a toothbrush to get all that dust out of the grill, it's a real PITA to clean. I use a lens cleaner for the screen with a micro cloth. Canned air for most of the rest, i leave it in the carry bag when i'm not using it. It's somewhat protected from dust that way.

Shower more often. Most of the dust are dead skin cells human shred.

I use a papertowel soaked in warm water to clean the top and bottom of the laptop and the sides of the keyboard. For just a regular dusting I use this thing:
Extremely powerful, more so than a can of air and it never runs out. Dusts the vents and the laptop itself like a champ. I also use it to help air dry the laptop after wiping it down. I use a paint brush in order to get the really stubborn pieces of dusts. The palmrest I try to avoid cleaning and getting dirty as much as humanly possible since the more you clean it, the white it gets over time but when it does it dirty I use rubbing alcohol to clean it.
I also use the duster to clean the grill but a brush or toothbrush is better suited for the job since the dust is really stubborn if it gets stuck in there. -
I have a box of those anti-fog wipes for glasses. The ones in the little individual packages. It's very mild alcohol solution. I wipe the whole thing down with that... even the screen. It keeps my G73 looking purdy.

Your standard anti-static micro fibre cloth and LCD cleaner. Same kind for flatscreen tv's and windows.
As for the body, cloth and soap.
Aircans work superb. 6 bucks per can. I do a quick 2 second burst on the keyboard every few days. Maintains it well.
I need to find one of those electric dusters Kuro. The thought of spending cash on air still irks the crap out of me. -
That electric duster Kuro posted is selling for $46 on amazon + free shipping. It's also got a great amount of excellent reviews. Debating on buying it. I mean, it would be worth it considering I'd be able to use it for all my other electric appliances as well. I'll sleep on it and decide tomorrow.

I can't tell if the $46 unit on Amazon has all the attachments.

Yeah that air duster looks good. Just out of curiosity, does it compress the air or accelerates it to get a good flow?
For the record, it's not air in those cans. It's some sort of hydrocarbon, i checkedso you're not paying for air.

Butane and propane in mine. So it says on the label. lol
