can someone give me a rateing out of 10, and maybe a nice little review of the g73a1 or a2 speakers and screen quality.

Assuming the speakers and the 1080p screen on the Xs are identical to the As, which they are;
Speakers 9/10, screen 8.5/10
Speakers fill the room, and are very decent for laptop speakers.
The screen is very clear, and noticeably superior to the laptops around me, short of the business class ones. Glare is minimal.
The rest of the laptop is over 9000. -
Good screen, one of the best glossy screens i've seen so far. I was rather impressed by the speakers, even with background noise you'll still hear them. They are still laptop speakers though.
-
Screen: 9/10
Speakers 7/10
(I was using a dell I9300, which had very good speakers and am a bit of an audiophile and you have to lay on the EQ thick to get balanced sound out).
Also you can't use the realtek enhancements or the creative stuff or it starts trying to "fake" bass which sounds 10x worse) -
Good screen, okay speakers. I use a desktop one.
-
9/10 for screen. The only thing better would be Alienware RGB LED/Professional monitors, and notebooks that have them start at $2,400 to over $3,000.
That said, IMO this screen is the best screen you can find in a sub $2,000 notebook.
N/A I don't use the speakers. Laptop speakers seem to get praise. But I use an external DAC to amp to speakers and if I don't have that, I use my Audio Technica AD900 headphones.
- I can say though, they are the loudest speakers I've heard on a laptop and they don't crackle, clip when you push it to full volume. So if you are stuck, then this is probably as good as it gets for a notebook.
Simply, I don't think you'll find nicer screen or speakers in a sub $2,000 notebook. -
I find the speakers suitable for private gaming, but for any serious listening you will use externals and/or headphones/IEM's.
I use this Sony set when opportunity strikes. Nice sound for the size, great for sharing a movie with someone.
For private listening I have a set of Skullcandy Titans IEM (IMO the only set worth getting from them) Very balanced audio presentation, solid bass response $25-30 online. I also have a Headroom Supreme portable amp + Sennheiser HD580 headphones. One of these days I'm going to upgrade that unit to a newer one with a DAC.

9/10 on the screen.
7/10 for the speakers - and that's saying a lot for notebook speakers. -
I haven't received my G73 yet, but from reading/watching reviews I get a feeling that they are pretty good, however as one said they are still laptop speakers. I think it's pretty sweet that they added a sub-woofer on the bottom. However, I heard that it does not supply much bass...Any info on how well the sub-woofer performs?

This is only my second experience with a laptop. Imo, the screen is awesome. 10/10 (I don't mind the glare at all at times).
Sound is awesome too 10/10. For a laptop, but my expectations are higher so I'd give it a 8/10. the sound is amazing imo. The audio software it comes with (creative) is a little buggy but if you set it up right, it can makes some nice sounds. Use the bass with equalizers, up the anty on the treble sliders and you are good to go.
This thing is LOUD!!! Without any boost or volume enhancements and with normalize on, if you are in your room with the doors closed, and someone walks pass your room, they will hear it.
edit - normalize is the only way to up the any on the volume without enhancing anything else creating a nasty sound. When its on, expect the volume to go down and up and down and up. uncheck normalize to have a constant low volume. -

Permanent switch to laptop only? Wow, impressive. I couldn't do that. Yet. Who knows. I also noticed the Bronx logo
I was working today on City Island and had lunch there. (Frutti d'Mar w/ crushed red pepper over linguini) BIG YUM
-
Love City Island, I'm about 5 minutes from there, always good eats... -
I have a triple 24" 1080p screens on my home rig. I miss all that desktop space.
-
Due to the life of travel I lead (4 continents in 6 years), I never could own or build a desktop. Much less one for gaming.
Been a laptop man for as long as I can remember, my first one being some weird Sepom 500mhz laptop that gave me static shocks around the edges. Then a hardy but slow Dell Inspiron, then an Acer that served me well until I threw it at somebody, then a Sony Vaio.
Always lived a portable life, and thus far the ASUS G73 has been a dream.
How good are the G73 speakers and Screen
