I'm slowly growing into the habit of shutting my lid and going to bed so that my laptop is in sleep mode, and I can easily resume whatever I was doing. However, I heard it's beneficial to reboot as it clears out any processes hogging resources, etc.

    How often should I reboot?

Once a week? One every few days?

I reboot at least every day. I never put my machine into sleep because 50% of the time after it resumes, I usually have some sort of performance issue. Plus with my SSD drive, I can boot into Windows in under 30 seconds.

I reboot with windows updates and no performance problems besides the standard crashes with the G73

If you use the msconfig tool to do selective startup, you can get rid of a lot of the performance hogs. You just have to remember to open them manually when you want them to work

Whenever you need to? Some people never shut their laptop off and that's fine. You never really "have to" reboot. That said, I turn my laptop off when I'm done using it or when I'm carrying it around places. I only keep mine on overnight when I'm downloading something. I never put mine into sleep mode, I set it so closing the lid shuts off the LCD and nothing else. I see no point in keeping it on when I'm not using it, boot up takes 20-30 seconds.

I put mine to sleep every night. The only time I shut down or reboot is for windows updates or travelling. It's gone 3 weeks without a reboot and worked fine :D

Shutdown as and when you need to. Don't think there's any performance or reliability concerns. Hibernate and Sleep have been much improved on Win 7.

Personally I treat Hibernate/Shutdown somewhat similarly.

There's no need to reboot unless you need to. Unlike Windows 98 and Windows 2000, XP and above have much better memory leak prevention and no noticeable performance drop happens.

I don't really reboot mine unless I am going out. I leave it on sleep at night and it feels the same way after I opened it back.
