Hello everyone, maybe this question applies to all laptops, but as mine is G73jh; I decided to post it here

SO well, my question is pretty obvious: I have a 5.1 speaker system by creative and I wanted to know if it's possible to connect it to the laptop.

The system has 3 cables but laptops usually have stereo out and mic... so... how do I do this do this.... is possible?

I haven't seen any evidence that the G73JH mic input is wired to also accept additional speaker connections like some machines are.

    That leaves either
    a) Use the digital output (TOSLINK connection on speaker jack)
    b) HDMI audio

probably You are gonna have to get a USB X-fi card from creative, I haven't done much research but there aren't many available choices so on these kind of cards, creative one is probably the best one there is.

Alright to the OP, you need to have DDLive or DTSlive. I had the same problem, movies still play in 5.1 like stated but games will do pcm, which means HDMI is the only way, I haven't found ANY way to do DDL or DTSL, and it blows my mind my ps3 does it fine but this super awesome lappy can't. I solved this problem with a nice set of G73s, they go in usb one driver to install and done. I realized with pc gaming they are all single player experiences, and when I have friends over the station is a better choice anyways so I can switch to that with surround sound.

I will say I was leary about faked surround sound but time and time again the logitech G73s prove to do a great job, and im pretty picky.
best things about the headsets are
    1. noise cancelling, you can't hear anyone yelling beside you, its one on one with the game, definitely draws you in more,
    2. great sounds, awesome bass, I thought i wasn't gonna get the big theater sound from them but man am I surprised, they are awesome for that
    3. they actually map surround sound, Ive been playing L4D2 and man when you hear grunts from behind it sends chills up my back, Im currently playing Aliens vs Predator and those xenomorphs crawling all around really make this headset shine.

But movie time with friends, back to the big surround sound with optical audio.

No, that sound system cannot be connected to the G73 for 5.1 audio.
