Can somebody explain to me step by step how to update from STOCK asus vga drivers to ati catalyst 12.1? (I have update vBios to .93)

What i did - removed all previous drivers with install manager, then cleaned all the crap with Driver sweeper, then launched setup.exe from 12.1 driver folder, selected custom, but i dont see there display drivers and ccc...

What im doing wrong? I DLed drivers from AMD site.

I have had this happen to me twice with my G73JH. I removed all of the ATI drivers and ran CCleaner and when I went to install the latest driver it seems to install but it doesn't. Something must get deleted when CCleaner runs that prohibits the driver from installing. I don't understand why it happens as the drivers install fine on a fresh windows install... To solve this problem, in both cases I used system restore. I rolled back Windows to a previous date when I still had an ATI driver installed. To get to 12.1 install over top of the driver that is there. Good Luck.

    If this happens:

Right click My Computer and select Device Manager
Go to the Display Adaptor and right click and select uninstall
Tick to remove software and uninstall the driver
Restart and make sure it is showing Standard VGA Adaptor
Then run the latest packages linked above and hit express

If it works correctly it should say do you want to restart once it has completed, if not try again.

When you run the installer, it unpacks in a specified location, the default is C:\ATI, from there \Support\the current version you are trying to install\Packages\Drivers is the location where the drivers inf is. You can manually install through the device manager and select the option to browse your computer and browse to that location. You don't need to go farther than the \Packages folder before hitting install. If everything works as it should, it will tell you the driver was updated. You might need to restart afterwards.

When it happened to me I did try all that was mentioned here and it did not help. My advice is... do not use CCleaner unless you need to.

Hey Heihachi88, did you try using system restore?

Ok, ill try without CCleaner... Also you have used Driver Sweeper?

I won't use a system restore, because i did installed tons of software for my work. :) Last restore point was 3 months ago.

Ok, i have just installed 12.1 drivers! I just run setup.exe from new drivers folder then uninstall old one -> reboot. Launched again setup.exe and wow i see the display drivers and ccc!

With asus stock drivers i had 2098P in 3dkmark11 and with a new 12.1 drivers i have 2468 marks! omg

My GPU clocks are 750MHZ/1000MHZ (with asus stock - icouldnt overclock memory, now i'll try to do that)

PS and i have noticed about GPU temperature - its lower... under load 66 degrees...

Heihachi88, if nothing above works for you, have you tried doing a fresh install of Win 7 OS then installing directly the latest Catalyst 12.1 you've downloaded? Maybe it would work as a last resort.

    EDIT:

Oops, no need for this post, your problem has already been solved =)
