Placed the order for this model today, should hopefully come within a week, probably sooner since I used the free 2-day shipping from the shoprunner trial. Also ordered a Crucial M4 64gb SSD to use for Windows 7, probably will arrive in the same package.

A few questions on how I should install Windows...

    1. Is there anything that needs to be done with the SSD itself before I insert it into SATA port 1 and move the HDD to SATA port 2? This includes stuff like firmware options/updates, configuring BIOS (heard something about always keeping it in AHCI mode, don't really know much so help would be good)

    2. Once I have both the SSD and HDD in, will Windows still prompt to boot from the HDD (from which it was preinstalled?) Or will i have the option to install (provided I have the recovery/install discs) onto the new SSD?

    3. If it does continue to boot from the HDD, how should I go about formatting the HDD? Should I just DBAN the whole HDD before even inserting the SSD, then insert the SSD into port 1, move HDD to port 2....continue with a fresh install of Windows 7 onto the SSD given that i have the install media?

Thanks for the help, hopefully this laptop is a good upgrade over the one i just sold (sig rig)!

    1. you should update the firmware, its not difficult and you can do it with a flash drive (also AHCI mode work fine for me no need to change to IDE to update)
    2. it would, you better format the preinstalled HDD while at the windows setup screen. Unless you want dual boot.
    3. well the above answered this already, also check out the throttle stop topic also in this box, g53/g73 throttling issue or smth

So to format the preinstalled HDD, when i receive the laptop i should first turn it on and go through the entire windows 7 setup process, then open my computer and quick/full format the HDD? Or when setting up Windows is there an option to format the HDD?

when you got your ssd. I assume you will put your stock HDD into the second tray. Then when you put in the Windows installation disc or flash drive, the setup screen will have options for you to choose which hdd to install windows into as well as delete partition, format, divide,etc... Do it at that screen, its fairly quick and simple.
