I own an ASUS G53JW-A1 (8GB RAM, 750GB 7200RPM HDD, other than that, base config), and was planning to purchase an SSD to put in the second drive bay. One thing that has recently crossed my mind is what effect this could have on battery life. I know that SSDs have low power consumption, but this laptop's battery life isn't great to start (not a complaint, I knew this when i bought it)
Has anyone added an SSD to one of these, and what changes have you noticed, if any?

More things, more power. if you will use only SSD, then, I guess you will have more battery life (about 10 min I think, not sure)

I did. No significant changes
But i use the SSD as boot drive and the HDD as storage. So unless i run something from the hdd or dowload something to it, it goes to sleep quite often -
Even if the SSD you put in is a relative power gobber, it won't make a big dent. By power gobber, I mean something around 1 watt when idle, 2-3 watts when at full utilization, which is pretty high for an SSD.
Turning down the screen brightness by 1 notch will make up for the increased power used by the SSD (and more than likely more than make up for it). -
mlockh19, Here is a link to some real world tests & some other good info.
