I have at least 5 different issues with my HDMI on my G73JH-A2. First of all, i never upgraded my vBIOS.
My first issue is simply plugging the HDMI cable, when i plug the cable, it doesnt transfer display to my TV, even if i Fn+F8 to HDMI only or HDMI+LCD, it just doesnt transfer the image. I always have to plug and inplug the cable a couple of times until the display finally shows up.
Second issue is once the display is on my TV, it doesnt always stay there, sometimes i have to unplug and replug the cable a couple of time, sometimes it turns off 2-3 secs and comes back on
Third issue is there is an Audio lag, i would say about 100-200ms but its noticeable expecially when they close a door or something and the sound comes after the door is closed
The fourth issue is there is a green bar around the image. The image doesnt cover all the TVs surface, there is a 1/4 inch black bar around and over that black bar there is a green tint...weird, i know
The fifth issue is as soon as i move the computer or cable, it disconnect the connection
Now, i know the obvious first step is to upgrade vBIOS, but there are 2 out there, and from what ive read on the post, one is to have better clock speeds of the video card and the other one addresses GSOD issues, which i dont have. So can anybody please tell me what should i do?
I have the most recent video drivers off Asus' website so is upgrading vBios the solution and if it is which one should i take? Also i almost brocked my lappy flashing bios to 211 2 days ago, how dangerous is the flash and how should i flash it
    Thanks

Have you eliminated the HDMI cable being the problem and not the laptop?

    Tried a different cable etc.

you say you've never upgraded your Vbios. Have you upgraded your video card drivers?

I can't speak to the green bar, but the black bar is a result of ATi overscan. you'll need to adjust the overscan settings in CCC.

Have you updated your audio drivers? There are 2 drivers, one for the sound card, and one specifically for HDMI audio.

Outside of that, you may still want to try a different cable. It almost sounds like the plug in is too shallow for the HDMI port, hence only BARELY making a connection [which seems weird to me, since I thought it was standardized] it could just be your PS3 has a shallower port? /shrug

I have the latest audio/video drivers as stated in my original post. And HDMI is standardised so there are no cable variations

HDMI cables can vary is what specification they can support. You need a cable that is spec'd for HDMI 1.3a or better. I use this cable from Monoprice:

For only $9.94 each when QTY 50+ purchased - 15FT 24AWG CL2 High Speed HDMI Cable w/ Net Jacket - Black | Premium 24AWG HDMI High Speed Certified Male to Male Cables

The 15' give me plenty of "wandering around the living-room" length, and are 1.3a CL2 High-Speed rated, so they support 3D and higher than 1080p resolutions, plus up to 48bit color.

yes of course, but many people still buy into it, just like people always go for the higher megapixels, higher gigahertz, and higher x-bits, Nintendo 64 anybody? the "64 bit generation" now I guess it must be more cores.

    @polish_pat:

The latest video drivers are obtained from AMD (the device manufacturer), NOT Asus. So if you have the "latest" from Asus you are missing some HDMI fixes.

    I would:

    1) Update your video BIOS just for the newer Catalyst driver support (you don't need to worry about clocks unless you want to).

    2) Install the latest Catalyst driver from AMD.

    3) Install the latest audio driver from Realtek

    4) Install the latest ATI HDMI Audio Device driver from Realtek

Hot-plugging HDMI can still be problematic depending on the devices involved, but the newer Catalyst drivers (10.10+) work much better.
