I was trying to be a nice guy by taking my wife's Asus g73 Laptop apart and cleaning out all of the dust/lint/hair. I thought it would be easy, as I have an Alienware m15x and have taken it apart a few times to clean it and redo the thermal paste. Anyhow, I followed a guide on Youtube and ended up snapping the brown and black latch that holds the ribbon underneath the keyboard (there are two of these). In the tutorial the guy said to flip up the brown part of the latch, but I later found out (by breaking the latch) that it is the black part of the latch that opens. After much effort, I was able to superglue the latch so that it would be able to hold the ribbon down, but I'm worried that it could break any minute since it's only a few tiny drops of glue holding it together.
Is there any way I can replace the brown and black retaining latches? She really loves her Asus and I would hate for her to not be able to use it because I messed it up. Thanks in advance for any advice.

Yo,
Bad news and I cover this in my sig guide shame you didnt look before following a random guide on youtube always do research on this forum before attempting something like this because the keyboard is taped down and requires real force to bring it up and so this along with the audio cable are common problems.
As long as the ribbon has not ripped at all and the latches hold fast then you should be ok but I would recommend maybe using a piece of tape NOT superglue just in case you ever need to get back inside. Superglue would mean breaking it in the future and probably damaging the ribbon if the superglue didnt do that for you. Just return the ribbon into the socket and then tape over the top of it so that it cannot move.
You could probably get a new latch but tape should hold it fine it is not a moveable part. -
Thanks. I actually did look over some of these threads, but I thought that it would be helpful to actually watch someone do it on video. Sadly, it's too late to go back and redo things now. I would like to buy a new latch, but I haven't been able to find it for sale online anywhere. I guess that if it comes down to it, I'll just try and tape it down. At the time, I didn't think that tape would be able to hold it down properly so I used superglue. I glued the latch together so that it could operate like it did before I broke it and waited for it to dry before I put the ribbon back in. I think the ribbon is 100% glue free.
I broke the brown and black ribbon latch
