Here it goes. I can't write anything anymore, I have tried with four different programs, but it's the same thing.
Whenever I try to burn it's the same story, it burns for a couple of seconds and then it "done", or it's takes like 2 hours to burn a music CD.

I tried to contact ASUS, but they don't even bother to answer the e-mails and the phone support is just awful.

Any idea what to do? Update something or change something? Anything?

    Thank you :)

Your ODD might be on it's last leg. If you have another laptop, swap both ODDs and try burning something from both laptops to see if you get the same problems with the drivefrom your newer notebok in the older one.

Try the RMA line again. Tell them you have an optical drive failure, and it needs to be replaced. Unfortunately they are going to require you to ship the whole unit. Some people just bought a new ODD instead and swapped it.

If it's a DVD burner and isn't capable of reading blu-ray, I would be tempted to upgrade to at least a blu-ray reader instead of shipping it off for a month. Honestly, if it were mine and I just wanted to burn DVDs, I would buy a sony burner for it. They are pretty darn cheap and I wouldn't be without my machine for a month.

I understand if you didn't want to go that route. You paid for a computer with a burner and Asus should make good on that. As cheap as those are though, I would just buy one and swap it out. There is one screw that you remove which is below the memory access panel and it slides right out of the side. You have to take the bezel off and pop it onto the new unit.

I bought a used BD-R to replace my factory DVD burner and now I can watch movies on it if I want to. Granted I don't do it very often, but I could if I wanted to. I think I watched two movies on it in a year and a half.

It may be obvious, but is your lens dirty or dusty? Have you tried a lens cleaner kit or blasting it with some compressed air?

    Thanks.

It's a bit strange that the burner would be broken or dirty due to the fact that it's so new. The asus support is really, really bad. I'm not much of a blue-ray guy, I just want a burner that can burn plain CD's.

Isn't there any update or something I can do to fix this?

All you would need is a bit of dust or something on the lens for it to start malfunctioning. Just don't touch it with anything but a clean microfiber cloth or a lens cleaner. Compressed air is easy enough for cleaning it.
