I haven't had the problem since I replaced the thermal paste; which keeps the temperatures in the 80's. However, I'd still like to know how you were able to solve it.

Do you think you could write a guide on how to do this mod?

Yes, I will do that don't worry, as soon as people verify it works.

Maybe you should add a disclaimer in big red letters like "User-designed BIOS modifications, may brick your laptop, no responsibility accepted etc." :)

Can you elaborate on what modifications you have done to the BIOS before members try it out and risk bricking their bios?

OK, here are my test results:

Firstly I copied the bios to my HDD and used the Bios Utility (f4) on POST to install it.

The notebook booted fine and seemed stable from initial impressions.

I then used rthdribl 1.2 and HWMonitor to test stuttering.

Now here is the interesting part.

The stuttering did not kick in at 96C BUT I left it running for a while and the stuttering did eventually kick in. This leads me to believe that maybe the problem is independent of GPU temp. Sometimes the frame rate was smooth at 96C but leaving it running for a while at this temp, and the stuttering kicked in. The CPU temp reached about 88C.

To make sure, I did this whole procedure TWICE. I am 100% sure of my findings.

Uh. Not really. Read the previous pages, one user tried it with mixed results with the first modded BIOS (i.e. stuttering still happened but at a later point), and failing to boot with the second.

This is the release with the 8700m gt adapted bios... in my case it works better than the original bios.....

In what way does it work better? The G1S does not have the 8700 so I don't see directly what the advantage of this BIOS mod would be.

less noticeable shuttering during the game, try and post your opinion, and the g1s not have the 8700m, it's right, but you don't know that the 8600m and the 8700m are the same graphic chip, anly different voltages and memory....

And therein lies the conundrum, people -- BIOS mods can wreck your laptop.

In my opinion, taking a leap of faith like this is potentially ill-advised and should never be attempted unless one either has what amounts to a disposable notebook or doesn't care about the risk involved. In addition, it is not clear whether Asus would honor their repair warranty in the event that something like this ends up making the notebook a brick.

My $0.03, anyway. The stuttering is a real issue with consequences for many users, but the consequences of a bad BIOS mod are catastrophic if something goes wrong......

    Hi,
i am ready to try your modded Bios. But before i do this i've a question.
is it possible to make a Dumpflash from original Bios?
Do you use a Asus G1S?
Have you self positive testet on your notebook?
Your Videocard use DDR 3 Ram?

    Thank for responding
