Hey guys, I am new here but I think I found the cause...

Had my G73-A3 for a while and I found the cause and I don't think it was posted here.

    It is...dun dun...DEFRAGGING.

That's right. Defragging your games will cause freezes and screens of death.

I have the latest drivers installed (10.7) and I never got a single problem when playing, but after a defrag, all different freezes and screens of death.

DO NOT defrag your Steam folder if you use Steam to game. Instead, right click on the game ON Steam, go to properties then local files. You can defrag each game on Steam and it works fine if you do it like that.

I have tested this many many many times and defragging is most definitely the cause of my games freezing and getting all sorts of screens of death.

    Hope this helps some people.

    -Ken

I defrag quite often and haven't received a GSOD on 10.6.

It has nothing to do with defragging. Sorry but i had GSODs right after a fresh windows install with 10.6 drivers and the issue is still the same and ive never defraged (cant and shouldnt defrag an SSD anyway) and im sure so have not many other users, since GSODs happen in every scenario. You just had luck to not get GSODs before defrag. And the freezes could be happening if you have bass boost enabled - common issue with creative and steam, or if you use older bios version there are also other bugs.

BTW, I did not update any BIOS or anything yet. But defragging games like I said seems to fix the problems.

Trust me, defragging does. I tested it for HOURS. Defragging MOST DEF caused problems for me, unless I defragged through Steam!

Also, my A3 does not have an SSD. (Amazon model)

I never ever defragged and did multiple fresh installs so im certain its not something stupid as that. Still get GSODs. And try running furmark on your non-defragged system and get back to me how soon youll GSOD.

I am many steps ahead of you, I am going to school for computer science, I know my shiz.

I ran futuremark defragged and not defragged, SOD when defragged (most of the time), no SOD at all when not defragged.

I tested it on the A1 and the A3, both had the same problems.

Bought an A1 from BB, got fuct on the screen (AOU garbage screen [the newest one] when they had an LG screen on display), returned it and cursed them out about the 15% restocking fee they tried to charge, then I got an A3.

PS: Never ever buy the A1 from BB. I paid the same price for an A3 from Amazon. (came with a mouse, backpack, and a better warranty for the same exact price. [If you bought a warranty at BB.])

I'm quite curious, what school for computer science do you attend?

Never mind guys, I have found the real cause of the problem. I downloaded Windows Optimizer 2012 Mayan Edition and it deleted my system32 folder and everything is working fine now. It also gave me a 25% speed increase as you can see on this chart...

    I changed it.

But back to being serious, I ran Auslogics defragger and let a game run for an hour, no problems. Defragged with Windows defragger, SOD in 5 mins. Seems to be a problem with Windows defragger.

    tl;dr: Never use Windows defragger.

I use Windows Defragger and Pitriform Defraggler, and have yet to have a GSOD since the proper install of 10.6.

Thread closed . . . I had to delete nearly thirty posts. Start another thread if you like, but consider phrasing the original post differently.

FYI - one-liners and other useless posts are not allowed per the forum rules. I don't want to see them - they do nothing but pollute the forums.
