......You don't know 100% until you ask lol so here it goes :)

I know you can't plug in a HDMI source and use the laptop screen as the display for it, but is there a way to plug in an HDMI source to the laptop and have it convert it and send it over to the VGA out?

I know there prolly isn't but like I said I just want to make sure!

I don't believe the HDMI on the 5870m is capable of any sort of input, which is what it would need to do in order to send it back out over VGA :(

i have to admit it would be awesome if we could input HDMI without an external device.

i think it's a limitation of video cards in general, they're just designed to output only.

    ah well *dreams*

Getting a HD Fury 3 may be an alternate solution
    HDFury3 HDMI 1.3 to Component/RGB Converter

This would allow you could convert the source of your HDMI signal directly to VGA and eliminate the need for the laptop at all.

I own a Alienware m15x laptop which sadly only has HDMI-out. As such I've had to use a HDfury 2 to down-convert the digital signal to analogue. The HDFury 2 has issues shifting the image slightly left but the HDFury 3 has a small switch which allows you to account for this without the need for projector/output screen adjustment controls.

I was thinking of getting a HDfury3 as the offer a discount for a returned HDfury2 but I'm returning the laptop as a whole soon...
