    Hi,

Since my temps are high (68 on idle) I can't really overclock and also it makes the laptop noisy. So I'll repaste. I'm buying some IC diamond 7 and going to di it soon. I took a look to many threads about it and I saw BTO's video, but if you guys still have some little details to say, would be really appreciated. I've open an other laptop before without any problems, but this one scares me a bit since it's expensive and it's my little baby :) I just want to be sure not to break the keyboard and for the repasting, I'll watch some videos but I think I understood how to do it. I was wondering, do I need to repaste the cpu or should just stick to the gpu?

    thanks

I send mine in for a Fan replacement. It came back good.

But after looking at the video BTO made. I am now worried about the Keyboard...

I wanted to repaste as well. but fear having a warped Keyboard.
I would love input from other about the state of the keyboard..

    Just go slow.

Also, use small cups (shot glasses, if you have them) to collect the screws, IIRC there are 4 different types.

The keyboard is a pain... but remember, it's only a $40 replacement on ebay.

Lol I checked on ebay and there's some for 25$ with free shipping :) Not "so bad" if I break it... Anyway, well for the fans, I blow them once every two weeks and it drops to 58 but gets back to 68 after a few hours I think.

But... everybody seems to say the keyboard really is a pain. Can anybody tell me I don't need to be scared about it lol? :p

I did it twice and the kb wasn't a problem either, like DCx said, just go slow and you shouldn't have any troubles. Take your time with the keyboard it takes sometimes to come off even with a bit of force. Same with the GPU heatsink, it will take some time for air to get to the paste and it'll require a bit of pressure to remove but not too much just wait until it starts coming off. I took my time, like 20 mins, removing the kb but it paid off i didn't have to straighten it much afterwards.

Be less concerned about the keyboard and more concerned about the audio and touchpad connectors on the motherboard. Those require serious care.

If you tear up the keyboard you can get one cheap as DCx said. ;)

The tape sucks, there's no way around it, just don't apply so much force to the keyboard and you won't rip or bend it. Even if you rip the foil, it's not a major disaster. Just don't rip the cables out of the board. :p

Exactly that GO SLOW. You wont damage the keyboard if you treat it like a piece of glass that must not break and that you are a contestant on the Krypton Factor! You should not warp the keyboard if you apply pressure a corner at a time and gradually peel it away from the tape.

Audio cable is nasty. Tiny screwdriver and be obsessively gentle when levering it out.

The screws thing is also very important the first time you do not want to get to the end and have 3 screws left over.

In regards to repasting. DO IT! :D

My rule of thumb: If it isn't going into thermal shutdown, don't repaste.

    Here's mine:

If the temps are stable over time and it doesn't go into thermal shutdown, don't repaste. If you see your temps getting higher and higher as months go by and cleaning the vents does nothing to lower them, then repaste since you will hit the thermal shutdown temps eventually.

Yup that's what I think too. I had some issues before where it was shutting down after 5 minutes of Starcraft 2, but that was just before I get the air can. Since then, temps get higher and higher over time and a few seconds after entering a game we can hear the fans running really loud. I'm always too scared to check my load temps lol knowing I need to repaste. the last time I checked, I was in Crysis 2 when I overclocked +50mhz I think and after maybe 10 minutes it got to 107C so I stopped it.

i don't think you should repaste too but that is your choice
make sure when you are blowing your fans the dust goes out from the other side

My keyboard got completely messed up when I removed mine. Nothing a little tape couldn't fix, hur hur hur.

Yup, when I blow them I can see the dust coming out.

I think it's ok to repaste, since I'll have to do it a day or an other. More than 95C (should check again, I'm not sure what's the max I get) on load means to repaste soon to me.

    Thanks for the link.

I just tested with furmark... The results are sad... I get 95C in 36 seconds...

I took a screen shot a bit over 3 minutes

It's really time for me to repaste. I will do it maybe in 2-3 weeks.

Well, that pretty much sums up what was happening before my MX-2 repaste. I get lower temps with my ICD7 repaste, but i also changed the thermal pads so i don't know which one factored in more than the other.
