well mine is just running at 1.84ghz so whats up with that ?

i did not do antover clocking at all except power 4 gear running at high performance and there isnt any TURBO option to disable, i even ran prime85 on torture test and hwinfo too and you will see that in the picture i uploaded below.

my question is if my cpu came overclocked from the factory (which is something i didnt ask for) can i overclock it even more ? because i wanted to buy SETFSB to overclock but i saw that my cpu is running at 1.84ghz already so ? .....

You clearly have the twin turbo enabled (BCLK is at 142MHz), there's an option to turn it off in the Bios. It should also be there in the P4G program menu:

My 740qm ran at 1.84 also. It is intel's turbo boost working not the twin turbo.

Intel Turbo Boost does not change the base clock speed of the CPU. HWiNFO shows your 740QM running at a base clock speed of 141.8 MHz. The default is 133 MHz so Twin Turbo must be enabled in Power4Gear.

Anyone that overclocks the base clock speed from within Windows needs to read this thread to avoid any system timing issues.

That is what my 740qm does with twin turbo off. 14 x 133mhz =1862.0mhz

xxERIKxx: In your screen shot, that is Intel Turbo Boost working. The default multiplier is 13 and it is using one bin of turbo boost so it is running at the 14 multiplier. Your base clock speed is 133.0 MHz which is the normal BCLK speed.

The first post shows a BCLK speed of 141.8 MHz while the CPU is using the default 13 multiplier. That shows the BCLK is being overclocked by the Twin Turbo feature but there is no Intel Turbo Boost being used. That's different than what your screen shot shows. You have a similar total MHz but you are getting there two different ways.

i know what is the turbo button do as my brother with the g73jh have it, but me i do not with my g53jw......

also even if i put it on entertainment mode it will be the same ........... which is 141x14 or 13 i guess i am not sure ........

so why is that? to be honest i am happy with it but i am just wondering why is that :D

here is my powqer 4 gear picture : http://img684.imageshack.us/img684/7111/p4gg53jw.jpg

edit:unclewebb PLAESE if i buy set fsb can you tell me what should i do exactly to get my cpu perforamance to the max stable clock speed? :)

or the 1.84ghz is the max i can get ? :)

Uninstall Power4Gear, boot up, run CPU-Z and you will probably see your BCLK speed at the default speed of 133 MHz. Power4Gear overclocks your CPU BCLK automatically to 141.8 MHz.

Try running WinTimerTester for about 60 seconds to see if running at 141.8 MHz is screwing up your system timers.

Windows has a "feature" that can cause these two timers to be out of sync if you change your BCLK speed with SetFSB or Power4Gear.

Your high performance timer is running in sync so that's a good thing.

Just out of curiosity, what version of P4G were you using? You're on a G53JW, so you should use 1.1.37 since the newer versions after that were tuned for the Sandy Bridge G series. If you were running 1.1.43 for example, that could explain the lack of a turbo option or it may not. I don't have a G53JW to test on unfortunately.

In any case, have you checked in the Bios to see if you have an option for turbo there?

The timer function seems to indicate your internal clocks are fine.

i have the one in the g53jw website i downloaded the latest one i dont know the version is ..... but it was the same when the computer first started for the first time .....actually i was sad because no turbo button but i was like okay i can live with it but yesterday i was checking this and guess what it appears that it is running with the turbo mode :D

also there is not TURBO option in the bios as i checked alot of time hoping that it has one :)

edit: so i guess no more overclocking for the cpu huh?

I checked the site, and indeed they list 1.1.43, however I see that as a mistake. The version you should be using is 1.1.37, as your system supports Twin Turbo.

Or, you could just disable it manually in the BIOS.
