Yes you need a cooling pad no matter which laptop you will need a cooling pad or it will fail 89% of the time.

Shrug, I don't know either. He's the same guy who claims his GTX 260M can play Metro 2033 at about same framerate as a GTX 460 desktop card.

My G73 runs great w/o cooling pad, but I repasted my gpu. Many people don't use coolers, and but it seems like most of those have repasted their gpu. A cooler wouldn't hurt, especially if you are using a stock notebook, but your temps will tell for sure. Either way, I've heard most temps only go down 2-3C with a cooler.

Ok just out of curiosity... (And my being one of the people that always uses a cooling pad. where did you get your numbers??? I thought the failling rate was in between 78.4 and 78.9 %.

Well don't know about the failing rate exposed earlier but it don't hurt to get one although the cooling on the G73 is good enough. Mine's with a cooling pad gets an improvement of about 3-5 degrees on a hot day.

After my first GPU crashing on me and sent back to ASUS I haven't used a cooling pad or a repaste. That said my temps are a bit high from what others are saying here so I will repate in the new year, but I run crysis warhead on almost full, furmark and others without a crashes anymore. My idle temp for GPU are always in the 50s, furmark brings it to 101, so Im pretty comfortable because games only ever take it to 90. But a repaste will bring down the temps and anxiety levels.

My friend or mate whatever you call it not sure in different country he made his own and i also followed his hands and made one from his email of the layout his macbook went to 90 well about 88 actually to be precise and since having a cooling pad he seems to keep it down to 74 or sometimes even 71.

And yes before you say oh wait that's the guy who claims the GTX 260M is better than the GTX 460M well it is .................................... For keeping the green line FPS in games not for its FPS number.

Meh maybe i can make a new thread with his design if its ok will cost you a good 60 bucks at minimum.

The unibody MB(P) line is just a big aluminum heat sink. A cooler helps dissipate the heat on those macs. The G73 derives much less benefit. I only see a 2-3c difference between using a cooler and just sitting it on a hard level surface.

    Cheers,

The G73 series has a excellent cooling system that using a laptop cooler is unnecessary. The MacBooks are heathogs and do require laptop coolers.

@AsusS: How much experience have you had with a G73? I would guess not a whole lot, if any. If this is true, please do not post info about something you either do not know or unsure of. There is a lot of people looking for answers in this forum, and we want to keep the info given both correct, and coherent. Thx. :)
