I've owned about 10 lappy's in the last 2 year's ranging from HP HDR + sub, Toshiba's with Harmon Kardon + Sub to G51, G72, G71. After I had some time with my G73 I thought to myself these Altec Lansing speakers sound pretty darn good compared to everything else I've heard. Then I ran into
ViciousXUSMC's G73JH review.

Besides being well writen with various forms of info and great pics he addressed the creative software. I had previously looked at the creative sound software but the software defaults to controlling the microphone levels not controlling the sub.
The default level for the sub was 0db. Now I have it cranked to 7db and it sounds outstanding.
I've read lots of reviews where people had said that the sound was ok. They must have the sub at 0db like I did because the sound is AWESOME when properly configured.

Yup these speakers freaking rock especially when you tweak the setting for rock, movies and music, they sound just like IDT audio, do you use external speakers? I use klipsch pro media 2.1. I haven't experienced nothing like that with creatives.

I haven't had any issue with the creative software yet. I hope I never do because I like it and I'd hate to be without the sub now that I am a custom to it.
For serious sound I have a pretty Samsung Sound System that I use my PS3/360 to stream video/audio to.
I also have a pair of Logitech G35 gaming headsets that go above and beyond -
so wait , there's no way to use the Sub without the crap creative audio drivers? I actually like creative products but one reason why i don't buy them is the driver...

What kind of problems are people having on their G73 with the Creative drivers? I probably shouldn't ask....................
-
They just freeze the comp when certain sounds are enacted.
An example is clicking on the EASE OF ACCESS center in the control panel. When the voice comes on after clicking on that, the comp freezes immediately (you don't get to hear the voice). There are other "certain" sounds that trigger the freeze. But if you can access the ease of access center, you probably don't have the issue (yet...).
I didn't have the issue for the first 3-4 days of using the laptop, then suddenly all kinds of freezes. Uninstalling the Creative Drivers stopped the issues.
No one knows why/what triggers the issue - the only thing everyone knows is uninstalling the drivers/software solves the issue.
If anyone can figure all this out, or an alternative solution that allows using them to adjust the sub level (maybe a reinstall of the drivers?), please post it here.
Thanks! -

Creative software has nothing to do on a pc that has no creative hardware.
It is just crapware. To put eax stiker on the pc is false advertising too.
Uninstall it and the gimped down driver too and install the newest full released driver that has full sound control.
Creative software/driver suks big time even when there is creative sound card in the pc, reason using onboard realtek/via sound and x-fi is collecting dust in the junk pile. -
While the Realtek HD Audio Manager doesn't have a full EQ, the presets do offer choices. You can't hear a difference between "None" and "Club" mode?
I'm listening to PulsRadio and when I scroll through the choices it makes a very noticeable difference.
As I mentioned before the sub won't lift the G73 off the table, but you should hear something, unless what you're listening to is devoid of bass. -
And I was not expecting much bass from the sub but I do know that pre-uninstall of the creative/soundblaster software, the bass was noticeable and now post install..not so much
-
Where can I get the Creative software/drivers? I did a reinstall and never tried them.
-
I'm still hooking my laptop to my subs. No comparison when you are use to them.

As I mentioned, the sub-woofer is not dependent on the Sound Blaster Audigy HD software. You just have to adjust the bass differently since the EQ goes bye-bye with the removal of the Creative software.
You don't see what we see in the Realtek HD Audio Manager because you still have the Creative software installed. With the Creative software uninstalled, a previously hidden tab becomes available. -

I installed the new Realtek drivers, adjusted the equalizer to give more bass, and the played a few tunes and it seems that I am getting a much fuller low end with the Creative utility installed. Could be my old ears, but Aqualung sounded much "heavier" with the Creative utility as opposed to the new Realtek drivers with the Creative drivers uninstalled.

I found it interesting.... playing with those audio drivers stuff...
1. uninstalled the creative driver.
2. Reboot
3. using the stock driver... can't find the base, enhancements control stuff... the tab is there... but no option to choose from...
4. uninstall the stock Realtak.
5. Reboot.
6. Window regonize no audio driver and installed the microsoft audio driver.. than I found the enchanements tab has more option to choose from...
7. But I am not going to use the microsoft driver... unistalled them and installed the newest Realtak driver R2.47.
8. Reboot
9. Found even more option to play around in the playback tab....
the microsphone aso has more option.... Noise suppression, echo cancellation those kind of stuff to play for... so for someone said the microphone is crap... give it a try...
the sub is definitely working...
I like the powerful setting under the equalizer.... excellent...
1 question though...the Realtek Digital Output.... I am not sure if the laptop have this output, thus no sounds coming out? -

I'm glad to hear
o ) that with an adjustment the speakers sound great. I'm hoping to get a future gaming release from Asus and want good speakers. Just wondering now if there is a free utility you can download with a nice EQ and something to adjust the Bass with for you g73s?
-
If the Realtek presets don't do the job, there is always individual players which often include their own equalizer.

forget the creative software. I just spent all nite pissed off because of steam/creative conflict causing my PC to freeze. I even exchanged my G73 for another unit and as soon as I adjusted the base and launched steam....CRASH!!!
Kalim what other options do you recommend for controlling the sub.
Thanks in Advance!!!! -
I just started fooling around with the settings to see if i could get the sound quality to be a little better. Im using the Asus/Creative program that is default on the computer.
So far....Go to Graphic Equalizer, and enable it, fool around with a few of the preset ones to see which you like most and BINGO. Your systems speakers sound noticeably better.
Next...Go to Speakers ->Bass Setting -> Enable Bass Boost. Your laptop has an itty bitty bass now lets use it!
I have mine set to
EQ- Rock
Bass Level : 4dB
I listen to rock music, play videogames and talk on skype all day and i love the new sound quality im hearing -

pretty sure you can keep the asus creative software and just update the realtek audio drivers to 2.52 and it fixes the crash problem.
-
i turned on the bass today... always turned CMS-3D on thinking it was for the subwoofer... it sounds better now..
If you think that the G73's speakers are medicore, you are out to lunch!!!
