Perhaps this has been covered, if so my apologies but I wanted to share what I found. I found that eBay sellers are charging a disgusting price of just under $50 for a stamped piece of tin. Asus eStore themselves is charging $22 plus a ridiculous $9 to ship a 2 ounce package. I purchased a few inexpensive ones from eBay sellers in the hopes that one would fit and I did locate a model that will work pretty well.

This is on a G73JH but according to the Asus eStore the caddies are interchangeable between the model numbers in the title. I've only verified this myself on my JH.

The best one I found was made to fit an Asus X401A, if you search ebay for that model number and DRIVE CADDY you will find several. I got mine for less than $4 including free shipping!

I had to trim off two tabs, the front ones, but other than that it worked great. The remaining screw holes were just a hair off but the metal was soft and they deformed easily with the screw starting at an angle. Everything is great now, not perfect but far, far better than spending fifty bucks!!

I hope somebody can use this information to save some dollars.

    Take care.

I like your solution, I had to do this in the past for Acer interposers and it's all a bit silly I agree.

I used one of the cheapies on the G73Sw. It DID need a little modifying to work properly. The original Asus ones are definitely nicer, and they are more than just a piece of tin. They have the pull tab, and a lining. But if one is using it for an SSD, it's not so important, which was my case. I just wanted it lodged firmly. Some people just don't have the time or patience to modify the cheapies to fit properly either, so they don't mind spending the extra bucks. ;)

This one I'm using is manufactured by Asus and does have the plastic lining although not the pull tab. The price dropped from $49 on eBay (Which are not manufactured by Asus and actually are just stamped pieces of tin with no lining or pull tab.) and $31 shipped from the Asus eStore (Not sure if they charge tax too.) to a total outlay of just $3.76. The extremely simple modifications took me approximately 3 minutes and for the dramatic savings were easily worth it to myself. I'm certainly not telling people they have to go this route but to me the value was obvious and I wanted to share the option.

Well so long as it secures the drive for that sort of difference it makes sense if you don't mind modifying it a little.

Thanks for the post, I might give this a try. I've been using two earplugs to secure my SSD in place for like 2 years now lmfao. Thankfully I don't move my G73 much or the drive connector could break!

Maybe those sticky pad velcro strips could work too lol.
