Just received my Intel 6200 mini wifi card in the mail. Want to put this into my G73.

Anything I need to know? Tips?

Is it as simple, as unscrew the back, pop out the old card, insert the new card, reattach wires?

Will the machine update the software automatically upon boot?

    Thanks for any info!

Card has two screws and tilts in like RAM sticks do.
Antenna connectors pop off like bottle caps.
I'm not sure which drivers Windows will push, but I used the latest Intel drivers.

    It's simple :)

I installed an i6200 too, just make sure you remove the antenna connectors by pulling straight up, and make sure they are centered before you push down.

Totally not trying to be a debbie downer..but isnt a 6200 pointless (as in absloutely no performance increase) in the G73 due to only having 2 antenna? (vs the 3 the 6200 uses?) From my limited understanding, I thought there really is no upgrade that can be done from the stock 5100 card that we have in there?

All I did on my A2 was swap out a 500GB 7200rpm (into my PS3) and replace it with a 128GB SSD and the Intel 6200 wifi.

The 6200 card is a 2 wire card. The 6300 is the 3-wire.

So, I managed to screw a little thing like this up...

One of the screws that holds in the wireless card has a mind of it's own and decides to "fly off" and into the laptop somewhere hidden near the top. At first I could hear it moving around as I tried to give the laptop a little shake to get it to come back out, then it stopped moving and has lodged itself somewhere out of site.

    Jeez!

Anyways, I am assuming the card is fine with 1 screw holding it in?

Any ideas for hunting down the little devil?

    Thanks!

Don't turn on the machine before you find the missing screw.
It could short circuit something inside the notebook and you could end up with a dead machine. :(

I was looking to pick one of these puppies up, two questions.

    1) What are the exact benefits? Faster?

    2) Where can I pick this baby up for not $60 in Canada? That is reputable.

Too late - already booted it before posting.

Thought of that, but it is buried...I am not finding it. Was shaking the machine lightly for several minutes, nothing is happening.

I really don't want to start taking the whole thing apart...

Any suggestions of where to start - steps to find it?

If you only use it for internet, there will be little or no benefit unless your internet connection is faster than 150Mbps.

If you do a lot of wireless home network data transfers and you have a wireless-N router then you may enjoy the extra speed.

It's hard to tell where it could be sitting.

But my advice is that you look for it. It could end up shorting something.

    Now what?

Can't seem to connect to the internet. Installed the drivers, etc... the little icon in the corner still showing No connections available...

Do, I uninstall the Atheros stuff?

Is there a way to configure this thing?

    Thanks!

Can you link the completed auction? There were... issues with counterfeits.

Yes the atheros stuff should be completely uninstalled from the control panel.

    The listing.

Still can't connect to anything. It lists the device as enabled and there in DEVICE MANAGER and updated drivers are installed.

Nothing is happening though, can't find any connections.

Do I need to install something else - software?

Got the drivers from the site and it shows it as installed, enabled, working, etc... But, it is not finding any connections.

When I do troubleshoot, it says there is a problem with the network adapter drivers. Reinstall...

I am using 13.1.1.1. I believe that is the correct one direct from intel site.

If Fn+F2 won't turn it on, go look in the BIOS and see that it's enabled there.

I had a similar issue when I upgraded to intel 6200.
What solved it for me is that I went into Device Manager and uninstalled the driver with the option "Delete the driver software for this device".

Then after that I rebooted and I installed the driver that I downloaded from intel website and then it worked.

    No luck.

Not sure what else to try.

Can't get connected with the Intel 6200 card. Maybe it is a fake? But, the comp finds it, says it is working, but no connections, etc... Troubleshooting says there is a problem with the driver. But, I tried the last 2 drivers released by Intel for this device.

    Reinstalled the Atheros, connects immediately.

Not sure what to try next?

You might want to call intel and give them the serial number to see if it's real.

I have a question: I took out the default azurewave and replaced it with an intel 6200 card. I opted not to install the Intel Proset software but did install the Intel drivers. Does anyone know if the Proset software can give you better performance than the default Windows 7 connection manager software (which I am using now)?

I am STILL having no luck with this issue.

I received my money back from the Hong Kong order - they were very professional about it. I still have the card.

I ordered another one from techawave.com in the USA.

Still the same results. Still not functioning.

Again, the device shows up in DEVICE MANAGER. It says it is functioning. It is enabled. The Driver is up to date (tried several including the ones that came on the accompanied disk and most current updated off the Intel site).

    Nothing is helping!

When I reinstall the Atheros card it functions immediately. So, the laptop wireless is working fine.

What can I do to get this card to work??? I now have 2 of them that "don't work" - both having the same issue.

PLEASE HELP if you have any ideas!

Make sure you uninstall your previous wifi driver first before installing the Intel driver. Try doing this in safe mode too.

Do you know where I can find this driver?

It is not listed anywhere in Uninstall/Remove programs.

Should I uninstall it while the stock card is in the machine...then shut down and reboot with the Intel installed?

Is that the driver you are talking about? The Atheros one for the stock card?

Is there anything else I should/need to uninstall?

I did the same as you (except I have the Intel 6300 ultimate N version). No issues and I prefer not to install software I don't need so I've never even considered installing the additional Intel software.

    Cheers,

I don't know if it was coincidence or not, but once I did the larger install, I was able to get full 300Mbps connection when near my access point. It was the "Enable Intel connection settings" checkbox added to the Wireless Properties/Connection page that enabled it. Before checking that box, best I could get was 270Mbps.

    Hi,

I just recently ordered my G73JH but I did not have the option to customize it with the upgraded Intel 6200 wireless adapter. Could any helpful person let me know the Manufacturer part# for this item so that I know that I am purchasing the correct item?

Also, does anyone have any direct product links to this item from any reliable online retailer that I could purchase from? I did a search an came up with this item on www.provantage.com.

    http://www.provantage.com/intel-622an-hmwwb~7ITE90NJ.htm

    Is this the correct item?

Thanks for all your help!
