    Hi guys.
I have a G53JW and 2 hard drives already installed. However as i never used the dvd-rom I would like to remove it and install a third hdd. Is it possible?

    What do I need?

    Thank you in advance!

It works very well; I have one in my G73. It's perfect for those who want to have a hybrid SSD/HDD setup but like gobs and gobs of storage space. I think the caddy's tall enough to take a 12.5mm drive(the tall 1TB drives), but I'm not 100% sure on that. It's a bit taller than the 9.5mm drive I have in there at least.

One caveat: read the online instructions carefully, as they give you a better idea how to swap out the ODD faceplate from your G73 onto the caddy. That tripped me up pretty badly, and there's many screws and a few little parts that might be confusing when you first open the caddy up.

I have to admit that's giving me some very bad ideas... 1TB for all my music and movies, a 7200RPM, 750GB drive for all my games, and my SSD... who would want anything more? :)

However, the ThinkPad Ultrabay drive solution likely won't work for the G73; I just did some matching up(I have one of the caddies I interchange between my X200 Ultrabase and my T500) and there's very little chance to get the slimline Ultrabay drive to securely fit in the Asus. :/

Yeah that is not surprising. The one I used was for a slimline too, non-G series laptop. I think there are ultrabay caddies that are 12.5 or 12.7mm but I'm not sure if they will fit either. Also when I quickly looked for these just now on ebay they are nearly as expensive so it isn't a cheap solution.

Keep in mind that the caddy will not be 6gbps in a SW model so if you wanted a SSD it should not go in the OD caddy if you have an SW/SX.
