So I ordered 16gb of Gskill 1333 from newegg for a hell of a deal ($39 a set, so I got 2). I pulled out the netbook and opened up the video on Youtube where they tear the G73JH apart. First time taking it apart, but I've taken other laptops apart so no biggie. I was a little scared of the speaker plug, but took my time and had the laptop down in about 30 minutes. Installed all the ram and booted her back up. I put the keyboard lights in upside down, so pulled that back off and now we're cooking with gasoline.

So I purchase FSB a while back and was able to get my G73 up to 165 stable, and it had been running that way for a while. Unfortunately, I'm not able to OC as high now, I can only get to 150 (which to me is a waste). Eventually I'll get an XM, but I'm happy since my RAM is maxed out (not like I'll ever use it).

It's common for different memory to change your overclocking abilities. You might be able to use a program like Thaiphoon Burner which lets you change your memory timings. Your CPU is still capable of running at 165 so sometimes you just need to adjust your memory timings so it can run at that speed too.

unclewebb: yea I figured. Never heard of thaiphoon burner, so i'll have to check it out.

My HP mini 311 was able to only get to 2.1 from 1.6 with ASROCK OC tuner. Once I installed the hacked biios, and unlike the ram from the FSB (and found out what the formula was) I was able to get it to 2.340! So it's my little beast. I know I'm just hitting a RAM freq wall now since my Ram is locked to my ratio.

    *Edit
Just downloaded the Demo, let's see if I can figure this thing out.

2nd'ed: Get an XM. And with the extra ram, play with fancycache (if you don't do work on the laptop!)

Yup, pretty standard problem. Each memory stick has different tolerances for overclocking. Most people who are into overclocking (and benching) only use one memory stick of low-density ram.

Dallers, I REALLY want to buy one, but I have too many hobbies as it is. The wife will want to kill me. I just purchased a new gun, some parts for the bike, and we are trying to save enough to pay off my truck (16K left) so it might be a while.

I might just ask for it around Christmas time!
