Hey so I was thinking about the Intel 6300 because I want to maximize the WiFi connection here :D

What do you think about it? And what would I have to do or get in order to still be able to use Bluetooth. And if I recall I would have to open the whole laptop again to replace the network card, right?

    Thanks for all replies :)

Donno about the other models, but on the JH, you can change out the wifi card from the hard drive access bay...

I personally bought a 6200, but I'm almost wishing I went with a 6300, cause the 6200 doesn't seem to have the driver option to prefer 2.4 or 5.2ghz under the advanced tab, unless I'm using the wrong driver.

First of all, a few questions.

What notebook do you have? whether or not you need to disassemble the entire notebook will depend solely on the model. Most notebooks have an access panel on the bottom.

What WLAN card do you have currently? To benefit from the 3 channels Tx/Rx that the 6300 can operate on, you will need three antennas installed in your notebook.

Which router will you be using primarily? There is no use using a 3x3 Wireless card when your router only supports 1x1 or 2x2 802.11n.

Finally what do you mean by the bluetooth question? is your current card a WLAN/Bluetooth combo card? if so, you need to buy another of that variety otherwise the Bluetooth is a seperate USB based module found elswhere in the notebook.

If you only have a 2x2 router, I would suggest one of the following:
    Intel Centrino Advanced-N 6205 | SpecReport
    Intel Centrino Advanced-N 6200 | SpecReport
    Bigfoot Networks Killer Wireless-N 1102 | SpecReport

If you need a WLAN/Bluetooth combo card then you will probably want this one:

Intel Centrino Advanced-N 6230 | SpecReport (same WLAN performance as Intel 6200

And if you decide the 3x3 card will suit your needs, you can go for the Intel 6300 or for (arguably) the best performance the Bigfoot killer 1103

Hey thanks for the detailed reply. I own the Asus G73JH A1 and the therefore the standard network card which comes with it. I will be at college and the library most of the time, there connection is really fast. I just don't know what type of router they own. And yeah my current card is a combo card, since I can transfer files via Bluetooth.

The JH factory card is just wifi, there is a separate Bluetooth module for the Bluetooth. You can use the 6300 with only 2 leads, but it will cap out at 300mbps. Tbh, depending on driver options for the 6300, you may want to go with that, as you might have a bit more control in setting a 5ghz preference over 2.4, but i know the 6200 works fine too and las I checked, was like 30 bucks from newegg.

Got mine from Amazon. I went 6300. Very fast. My router is 2x2 but for 5 extra bucks i got the 6300 over the 6200.

If I were to do this again, I would do it this way, just cause its a more expensive card... we are talking less than a happy meal though, so not worth buying another wifi card :D

Just picked up a G73SW-XT1 ($1099 @ TigerDirect, seemed like a nice step up from my 3 yr old G50V-A1).

It arrives Wednesday and I'm anxious to start tweaking it!

Assume that it only has two antenna? If so, does anyone have a link to the ideal approach to adding a third antenna (where to seat it, how to feed it, etc)?

Home router is a Netgear WNDR3700 (which I believe is only 2x2, but I'm fine spending the extra $10 and doing some work if it means a potentially better connection when I lug the beast to another location).

    Thx for any tips!
