    Hi,

I just want to make sure i am ordering the right one, cause i don't know if there are fakes or anything, it looks like it's so cheap and its hell better than the Atheros 150Mbps i'm getting now.

How much speed do u guys get with the Centrino 450Mbps or the 300MBps ? like in MB when u transfer anything, and if you could screenshot it please, i really want to see it's progress speed.

I have the Linksys E3000 with Tomato so i can get Dual band for 300MBps 5Ghz.

the ones i am thinking is
Intel Centrino Ultimate N WiFi 6300 633ANHMW Half Mini Card FRU 60Y3233 450 MB | eBay

    Or
    Intel Centrino Ultimate N 6300 Wireless Card A B G N | eBay

Which one u think is the best to order from ? one is New and the other one is maybe not in original box or anything but 10$ less, so i don't know if it's fake or something.

    Is it easy installing ?

    Thanks

EDIT : Btw, I will lose my Bluetooth right ? Is there any 6300 with Bluetooth or something that will give me Bluetooth support ? I guess i can get a USB Bluetooth, any suggestion which one ?

The first one you listed is for Lenovo notebooks and won't work in the G73, however, the second one you listed would work.

If you install as is with 2 antennas, the procedure is very easy:
    • Uninstall Atheros drivers
    • Open the back panel and install the new wireless adapter
    • Install the drivers for the 6300

However, if you want 450Mbps instead of 300Mbps, you will need to wire a third antenna and that implies disassembling the laptop, removing the lcd assembly, opening it up and wiring the third antenna behind the lcd panel which isn't an easy procedure.

You will not loose bluetooth by the way, the bluetooth module on the G73 isn't integrated on the wireless adapter. It is completely separate hardware.

As for transfer speeds with a 6300 and two antennas (300 Mbps link rate). The tests were done with a Linksys E3000 running the stock firmware, there are no guarantees that Tomato will give the same performance, it could be equal, better or worse. Third party firmware can give other useful capabilities to routers, but sometimes it comes at the cost of lower throughput. You'll have to test for yourself.

hmmm is that worth the upgrade ? i'm getting now 12Mb+-, somehow i don't remember when i think i got like 18Mb i don't really remember if that's possible or if i really get this, but anyway, should i buy the 2nd one u said is ok, or can u help me find one really to be sure + cheaper.
And i don't think i'll connect the 3rd antenna, at least not now.
    Thanks

Are you talking about your Internet connection. 1 MB = 8 Mb, people often confuse Bytes and bits. If you want to see if you can get faster Internet, check what speed you get when you're wired and compare to what you get with wireless. If there is no difference, then your Internet connection is the slowest denominator and better networking gear won't change that. The speeds I showed were transferred from one computer to another over the network.

Wired i'm getting full speed depend on the hardisk so it goes between 100-80mb i presume that's good, i will soon change to SSD.

If it's 300Mbps then the speed should be 37.50Mb, but with overhead 40-50% that's like 18-20Mb, correct ?
    30000:8=37.5

on wireless i would want to see something like 20Mb or so.

edit : BTW , how did you know the first link is only for lenevo, how can identify if i'm looking on more sellers ?

With a 300Mbps link rate 18-20 MB/s is the absolute best you could get, I personally get peaks at ~20 with my E3000, but the average is more at 16-17 MB/s or ~130Mbps and that is very good for wireless N on two streams (well used too, replaced it with an E4200v1). There is overhead to take into account, but also interference, which is way more rpesent on 2.4GHz. Do note however that 5GHz signals fade faster with distance from the router and that can become a problem in large houses.

Look at the description for the item, it says that is is for Lenovo. The fact that it has a FRU# is a dead giveaway too. Those will only work in Lenovo or HP notebooks, you'll get a device cannot start error message for other notebooks.

    Missed that :B

i only looked on the title itself.

    So 2nd is good ok.
But arggg, it still look fast comparable to 150Mbps 12Mb, but 18MB fastest i'll get seem pretty low, but still cheap upgrade.

Btw, where are the antennas in the computer anyway ? i mean can i get another antenna like this and connect it or something, do i really have to make a hole to connect a pole antenna ?

The antennas are located behind (or /and above) the lcd display with wires running to the adapter. You wouldn't have to drill holes, but you'd have to place the third antenna behind the display for it to make a difference and that involves a rather high amount of disassembly. Anyways, your E3000 can't do more than 2 streams so you'd have to get a new router too for the third antenna to be of any use. You could get an Intel 6200 and call it a day, it will perform the same as a 6300 with two antennas.

Ok, i hate the word disassembly, but if i won't start i will never do it, the problem is that i don't want to do with a laptop cost 9,800NIS which is alot.

and ppl say the 6300 is different not just because the antennas, but more options or performance. i mean maybe the difference is that i will take a 6250 + Bluetooth. How can i know if it's the same performance as the 6300 just without the extra antenna ?

The current revision for a 2 antennae solution from Intel is the 6205. Getting a 6300 is not a bad idea, since if you ever upgrade your router, you can add an antenna. (which is what I did on my baby) If the router supports MIMO you can take advantage of that too.

Chastity, what is the speed your'e getting ? can u please make a screenshot transferring something wireless ? make sure you have Receive Buffers and Transmit Buffers to the max 2048. It should improve performance.

You'll have to wait until I get home Jan 9, as I'm at my parents for the holidays. :)

I have the 6300 in my G73JH and I bought a 3rd antenna off ebay and just coiled it up above the wifi card itself loosely. I get 270mbps-450mbps on the 2GHz an 5GHz bands, Connected to a Linksys E4200

Ideally, you'd have to transfer a large file over the network to give actual throughput. It will likely be around half the link rate.

Can you please show screenshot with file transfer and what part of antenna did u buy ? If you can show your computer how the antenna is set up so i will get idea if it's easy first and if i like the idea/worth it
