I installed Intel INF from Chastity's driver page in asusrog forums (not the latest one. It was one that I had downloaded a couple of months back). After installing, it asked me to reboot the computer and I did so. Now, I went through the notepad file in the .rar folder and it says after booting up, I'm supposed to follow onscreen directions but after booting up, there were no onscreen directions. I went to regedit and checked under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Intel\Infinst and it says there Name: Install Type: REG_SZ Data: success. But when I went to C:\Program Files (x86)\Intel\InfInst, there was nothing in it but a readme and a licence text. SO basically, I don't think or rather, I don't know if the Intel INF got installed.

Now, the problem arises here. I tried opening Intel Rapid Storage Technology after installing Intel INF and it says "IAStorUI has stopped working". I simply cannot get it to run. I even tried opening it from Intel Control Centre and the taskbar but it says the same thing. In the taskbar, it says Intel RST service is not running. This is not the first time this is happening, This has happened to me once before too while trying to install Intel INF. I had tried uninstalling Intel RST but then couldn't reinstall it no matter what. The only way I could do it was by installing Windows 7 all over again. I don't want to install Windows 7 all over again as I have so many important programs I have installed and updated so many drivers and stuff via internet at home (I don't have internet here in my hostel). Does anyone know what the problem could be? I really haven't felt the need for Intel INF but tried installing it because Chastity said she used Intel INF to force installing driver for the touchpad issue in her latest thread (I have those touchpad issues). Is there any way I can get Intel RST working again without having to do a fresh install? I couldn't use System restore either because there were no restore points (I had used CCleaner and it said it would delete all but the latest restore point but that wasn't the case).

When I click on view details when it says "IUStorUI had stopped working", this is what it says:

    Stopped working

Googling didn't help much. Can anyone help me out? Please?

Thank you for taking the trouble to read through my post. Please do help me if possible.

Another doubt. Do I really need Intel RST? I don't have an SSD drive. Just the 750gb Seagate that came with the laptop. I plan on getting an SSD in the future though.

You mean uninstall and reinstall the latest driver? Just out of curiosity. What is this Intel RST for? How does it help? I'm a noob, as you must have realised. When i read up on it, i got the impression that it's required only for RAID enabled laptops which mine isn't.

Are you using the Intel Mobile Express Chipset SATA AHCI Controller driver?

If not, that is the reason you are getting a iastorui issue.

Also mind you that the MS AHCI driver works very well for non-RAID setups and supports TRIM nicely for SSD users.

I am very interested in this Chastity, since I have just cleaned my SSD and done a clean install for some crazy malware that hit me yesterday...

    let me ask directly:

From your page I see there are 4 intel drivers, listed in this order:

Intel Chipset INF for Series 5
( I installed another version, the v9.2.0.1030) using the shortcut -overall trick to get all the thing installed properly.

NOw I see other two drivers: Intel RST SATA Drivers + Intel Management Engine Components:

Usually the first one install some program from intel to monitoring HDD and the second fails... or install somethign that I do not see of any use.

in the end, do I really need those two drivers or not?

Finally, there are the turbo boost drivers... I just installed the monitor gadget form the stock CD... aren't those drivers supposed to be included with teh INF packages?

Actually, you really don't have to install anything. Just make sure the driver installed is the Microsoft supplied AHCI one. (sometimes Win 7 slips in an Intel one from WU) The Intel MEI has nothing to do with the HDDs.

I think that only the intel one used to be listed here in my previous installation
