So I was browsing the drivers on the Asus Support website for the G73, and under "Other" is listed Intel Turbo Boost technology driver, Intel Management Engine Interface, and The Turbo Boost monitor application.

Does anyone know what these three things do, and are they necessary for the G73 to achieve maximum potential?

IMEI does things like vpro and such, The TB monitor is a desktop widget that shows when TB is on, and the TB technology driver is exactly what it says it is.

None are required, if you want more info, wikipedia likely has something on IMEI.

Thanks for the teaser, DCx :) Perhaps I wasn't specific enough. It is my understanding that the Intel Turbo Boost automatically adjusts your processor clock depending on the load on the cores. Does the G73 boost button/Power4Gear clash with this in any way?

The boost button seems pretty useless to me if i were to be honest.

Power4Gear enables the Turbo Boost toggle On/Off, so it's intended to be used with Intel's TurboBoost.

Ok, good to know. But if I uninstall Power4Gear, do I lose Turbo Boost, or does it still work automatically?

Isn't the P4G's Turbo Mod the one that raises the bclk to 143 and is entirely different from Intel's Turbo Boost and they're not one and the same and function separately?

AARRGGHH, dammit you're all confusing me!!! I think I just had a personal BSOD.

TBH, I should get to know the app better.

I know the Turbo Boost button / toggle in P4GH toggles the BIOS setting. I thought the BIOS toggle also affect Turbo Boost.

    Repeat until memorized...

    Intel <--- Turbo Boost
    Asus <--- Twin Turbo

    Intel <--- Turbo Boost
    Asus <--- Twin Turbo

    Intel <--- Turbo Boost
    Asus <--- Twin Turbo

The word "turbo" is the only thing they have in common :)

I thought the button changes from twin turbo mode off and on, not turbo boost on and off. Since even when I have it off, it still boost according to my monitor.

I was thinking that twin turbo would be better when two cores are active and off is better when 4 cores are active.

also, the monitor is annoying cause every time I do a registry clean, the monitor no longer works so I have to reinstall it

I know Intel's Turbo Boost is built into the Nehalem processors and it utilizes dynamic overclocking. I do not believe the twin turbo from Power4Gear is the same thing, which is why I wonder if the two clash.

Given the nature of Asus' other extras, I wouldn't be surprised if Power4Gear indirectly contributes to some of our problems. If the processor will do the same function automatically, i'm thinking about dumping Power4Gear. But we still need resolution on this issue.

Also, anyone know of any ways to remap the Asus Twin Turbo button or the splendid button? :)

Yes. TwinTurbo sets all 4 cores to 1.73, if I remember correctly.

    Hi guys

I just started noticing that turbo boost doesn't seem to be working on my G73. it seemed to work fine when I was running BIOS 206. Now the gadget on desktop does not show any animation or any change from 1.6. Before I remember that no matter what I did...I could see the gadget animate and CPU levels increase/decrease. I did play with asus tubro and turned it off immediately though. DId that in someway disable turbo boost?

    thanks,

    V

if the monitor isn't show any kind of boost at all, open power4gear and make sure turbo boost is on. If that doesn't change, go to high performance mode and make sure ur settings are on max everything then restart.

Make sure ur lappy is plugged in.
