I have just bought the Intel X25-M 80GB SATA Solid State Drive for my g73jh-a1, i replaced theold HHD and inserted the SSD in it's place, restarted the computer, held esc, inserted the recovery disc and chose to boot and install windows onto the SSD via the subsequent prompts. After this all installed, the computer restarts HOWEVER it boots back to my old desktop and appears to be running off my old HDD, which i did not even know was possible as i thought the caddy in the right hand side was for the OS??? I am at a loss....any help appreciated.

Are you sure you sure you removed the right hard drive. The G73JH-A1 came with two hard drive in it. Maybe you placed the SSD in the spot of the second drive. This would mean the primary drive stayed in there and that's why it's booting from it. You can either remove that drive or get into the BIOS and change the boot order so it boots from the SSD first.

Nah, i have definitely removed my old OS Drive and replaced it with the SSD. Seems rather strange that it still boots to my old HDD. Windows did install onto the SSD however, but i never changed the booting order so therefore it should boot to that same slot i.e where the SSD now is.

I have since formatted the SSD and am going to start again. On pressing esc on the boot up, i choose P1 which is my Old HDD, P0 which is my SSD, and P4 which is the recovery disc. Obviously clicking the Old HDD just boots the old HDD, choosing P0 gives me an error message saying ''Boot MGR Missing'', and the Disc option allows me to install the OS but it will then just boot to my old HDD. So confused!

If it's booting off of your old HDD, the old HDD is clearly still in the computer...

Yes, it IS in the computer. But i shifted it to the oppposite slot...as in, the one that is NOT the OS but for some reason now seems to be. I swapped them around again and i can still only boot to the Old HDD and not the SSD. I dont want the old one removed completely, i just want it to be my storage and use the SSD as my OS .

If its booting to your old hard drive the only solution is that its still in there. Otherwise it would be impossible to boot to it. You want to change your boot order to Optical drive first, then SSD, then HDD. Which bay its in doesnt matter if you dont have the boot order right. Make sure the Windows disc is in the Optical drive then reboot. You should not have to push anything to make it boot to it first as you set that in BIOS. If the boot order is correct then the computer should display "push any button to boot from cd" or something very similar. Do so and follow the instructions. If you're still having problems remove the HDD totally while doing the Windows install on your SSD.

Well, i've got everything installed as in windows and all the drivers on the SSD (whilst leaving the old HDD in the other caddy) however...i cannot select the SSD to boot up first. In the boot options after pressing esc whilst restarting, the only options available are the old HDD (p1) and the optical drive (p4). There is nothing for the SSD. The only way i can seem to boot the ssd is to manually select it by pressing esc :S which is a bit of a pain if you ask me! Seems pointless.

You have to change that in the BIOS. During boot up dont hit esc, thats just temporarily. Hit F2 that will get you into the BIOS. Arrow over to Boot, then down to the the boot order, set the SSD as the priority, F10 to save and exit.

Cheers for that mate, i seem to have it sorted now. Although my computer seems to be confused between hard drives, as in .dll files missing and things but i can sort that out (i hope!). My propblem now is that i cannot play games using my Wireless XBOX controller as i did previously. I've installed all the correct utilities and drivers, however my reciever doesnt recognise my controller even after installing it from the disc. Any ideas?
