I have a atheros AR8131 and get freezing or disconnections somtimes when connected to the net wireless, never happens when sitting at my desk connected via lan cable. Been thinking of replacing the atheros for intel but don't know what is the best replacement I've seen a Intel Advanced-N 6200 Wireless Card but is that the best or is there better.

I've bought this week the intel 6200 n card and i must say it's much better than the old one+ it is not to steep and it's easy to replace.

    I use a 6200 and it's been 100% solid.

If you have use for Intel WiMax you could go with a 6250.

If you have use for possible connection speeds >300Mbps then you could try a 6300, but the 6300 uses three antennas which you could ignore and use the two installed or add a third.

The 6200 is all you need. The 6300 will do 450mbps but only if you install a 3rd antenna (as MarkS said). The advantage of 450mbps v 300mpbs is debatable. If will have no effect on internet/on-line game speeds since you are limited by your far slower DSL/Cable speed. 450mbps will only help for large file transfers between your home network.

I'd say get the 6200. Provantage.com has a good price I hear. I got mine from a forum member who sells them named babyhemi, he offers a good deal too, but I cannot remember how much I paid, I think $30-something. Be careful if you go on ebay, there are a lot of fakes and ES (engineering samples) that don't work, I got suckered into one, but fortunately got a refund.

Another vote here for the 6200. I switched awhile back to fix a problem with dropped/stalled connections due to interference, and never looked back.

Well worth the low price of admission.

Babyhemi might offer to ship international if you pay him upfront for all the shipping charges. Your payment would need to clear paypal first obviously. He has sold to a lot of people here so I would trust him. Do a search for posts by Babyhemi or PM him. If he ships international, that may be cheaper than buying in the UK.

I switched to the 6200, my router is not capable of the faster connection speeds but I have not had a single dropped connection since it has been in. With the Atheros card I was getting two or three drops per day.

They are really easy to switch, just be careful you don't drop the screws into the laptop as you remove or replace them.

    Cheers
