I have the G73JH no backlight keyboard issue, though it seems to be different than most. My BIOS has not been upgraded, ATK has been removed and fully upgraded, Power4Gear has been removed and fully upgraded. When I push the Fn+keyboard light buttons nothing comes up on the screen and nothing happens. When I boot the keyboard lights do not flash.

The issue started when I opened my laptop and found out the connector was partially broken while working on the computer, I removed the connector and taped the wire out of the way until I could get a new one (i am a certified computer technician). Since I have done that I re-installed windows, but also installed ATK and Power4Gear. Today my new connector arrived and I installed the cable (golden pull tab down as all online guides show), and have upgraded ATK and Power4Gear though have not a trace of the lights working.

This is different than most of the backlight issues, so I can't really find anything online helpful, if you have any suggestions please let me know. Thanks!

I did see that thread though thought it was only for if you upgraded your BIOS?

Yes that has been the case for a few of the unlucky people. Since you have ruled out the usual suspects, I just thought it could not hurt..maybe some how something in the BIOS got corrupted.
BTW what BIOS are U using now ?
If you are not on 213, you could try flashing to that version. I am sure U have read the warnings - USB - fat 32 - do not use winflash...

I am still way back on 205 because I never dared to upgrade due to the backlighting issues.

Everywhere I read says only use winflash, could you give me a breakdown of the best way to use the usb drive to do it without that? I have the drive and bios right here

It's a pain that I can't delete my own post -_- I now have BIOS213, ATK reinstalled to newest, and Power4Gear re-installed to newest, still no luck =( Going to see if I can understand how to try out the light fix link you sent me now.

JshLnsctt, I have never had mine apart. Is it an LED or 'bulb' that actually provides the light? And could that be bad? Just speculation on my part.

So at this point do the lights flash when powered on? I saw you did the Gary Key board light fix.

The actual keyboard is LED backlit, it is built into the keyboard

That is the direction that I have it installed, I searched over and over to ensure that it was facing the correct way. It is kind of confusing that they would have the pull tab face down though.

You mentioned that the cable was damaged, and replaced. Was the original ribbon cable pulled out of the mobo socket while the clamp was closed?

The cable was not damaged, the clip was, and no the cable was carefully removed, though the end of the clip broke while removing it so I ordered a new clip.
