    Hi everyone.

I'm looking to upgrade my storage capacity in my G73JH. At the moment I have a 120gb SSD running my OS and other frequently used programs; and the 680gb hard drive that comes with the laptop. Now, my question is, should I go for a larger storage internal upgrade, perhaps going up to a 7200 rpm drive? Or, should I get an external HDD? I would like to go for a 7200 rpm; and I would like at least a 1TB drive. For the moment let's just ignore price.

And thusly, does anyone have any good recommendations on quality HDD (both internal and external) that you feel comfortable recommending.

I should note as well, that if I could find a good size internal 7200rpm, I would consider taking the 680 and mounting it as an external.

Whoa, sorry about the triple post apparently. Not entirely sure why that happened! My apologies to the forum!

Paco, that's a great idea. But were you able to successfully and cleanly swap the DVD/Bluray cover from the stock drive onto the HDD caddy? Or how else were you able to cover it up? I wouldn't want a gaping hole/gap in that area...

I'm also using such caddy. You can take cover from dvd/bluray and put to caddy ;)

the only thing that I did is remove the bluray drive and put the caddy and it fit perfectly but I cant use a screw to hold inside but I don't really move a lot my laptop. but like Pico said the top of the bluray should fit.

Don't worry about it, we are experiencing some technical difficulties right now.

Regarding the HDD caddy, you can unscrew the part that holds the optical in place form the optical drive as well as remove the bezel. Put both of those on the HDD tray and it will both look seamless and hold tightly in place.

You can go with an external for files and personal data, but i wouldn't install any programs on it.

Internal recommendations: Samsung Spinpoint M8 1TB or the Hitachi 7K750 750GB.

Thank you guys, I am also considering the cd-drive bay otption. BUT, as I do still use mine from time to time (I travel a lot), it's probably not the best option.

tijo, thank you for those two suggestions. I will check them out when I get home. I just wanted to get some opinions on higher quality HDD's for my lappy. I see all those seagates and western digitals and I have the OCD to always want to read the bad reviews on sites. Which always makes me super wary. BUT, I seem to have a higher trust of the people in this forum, since posts here have resolved the few problems I have had with my g73.

    Thank you all.

The scorpio black 750GB and the scorpio blue 1TB are also good contenders, but prices on WD drives right now are still highly inflated. My 7K750 has been behaving perfectly well for almost a year now.
