After going through other models of G73jh it feels like only Best Buy model didn't have the bluray dvd player.. Since I am stuck with a regular dvd drive; I was wondering if bluray is important or not and it would be just a waste of money to upgrade.

Do you plan on ripping BluRays to your PC? You can always upgrade to a full BR Burner and have the option of burning BR for movies or archiving.

I never understood why people ask these sorts of questions. The importance of Blu-ray depends entirely on your personal preference.

That, i don't really care for blu-ray on my PCs. I have the PS3 hooked to the HDTV to play blu-rays and i don't plan on ripping blu-rays to my PC given the amount of space BDrips take, i would need to purchase extra storage to go with it.

Well I was just wondering how many of you actually use it and have it. I personally do rent only blu-ray dvd's from Blockbuster and just watch it on my TV; but I was thinking is it actually worth watching it on your laptop when you have a seperate bluray dvd player.

I personally don't see the point in watching a Blu Ray on a small screen. Big 1080P screen or it's not worth it to me.

Unless games start being released on Blu-ray, I don't see that much of a reason... even though I would prefer to have the blu-ray just in case. :p

You can always get a bluray burner drive for your laptop down the road. I wouldn't bother getting 1 now. Maybe wait until holographic optical drives start coming out :)

Unless you plan to watch/burn a lot of Blu Rays then its not important at all. I never understood why people got upset when their computers did not have Blu Ray players, I could care less because I never use it anyway!

Well when I payed almost the same for the same laptop it would be nice if I had the same features as you with a bluray player.

Do you have bluray discs? Are you unable to upgrade it yourself later?

I prolly will never use the BR drive in my g53, but it wasn't my choice to have it installed.
It came with my model (check specs in sig) and I think I bought it for cheap (1,169.00 shipping included, 3 years warranty plus 1 year accidental damage).

I don't think it's a bad idea to have it. I mean BR is the new disc media, prolly it will replace DVD soon, it's not a bad thing.
Speaking about my experience i saw it as a nice added bonus. I mean I don't need anything else, as long as it burns DVD I'm completely happy with it.

You don't need BluRay, but it's more "future" proof than DVD. But by the time Bluray is the standard, you won;t even being using your laptop anymore.
