By this, I am referring to my PS3 Tournament edition fight stick as seen here: Newegg.com - MadCatz PS3 Street Fighter IV Fight Stick Tournament Edition
I've had it for over a year now, but with Street Fighter AE releasing soon for the PC, I actually want to play it there and get my PC friends started on it as well...the issue is, the damn thing doesn't work. You plug it in, drivers install, controller is detected, buttons dont register, game over.
Apparently the 360 version works with no issues whatsoever. It's just the ps3 version that has PC issues. Anyway, ive done a bit of research (aka googling) and found out that the issue is due to an incompatible chipset. PC owners were able to get around the issue by buying a VIA or Intel 2.0 USB PCI card which it seems to work with.
Since I have a laptop, is there absolutely no way to somehow make it work with the g73? Am I stuck to buying the game for the ps3?
-
I've used it with my computer (not on my G73, but other computers) before no problem. It should just be registered as a standard game controller.
You can also try using Motioninjoy ( MotioninJoy | Playstation 3|Xbox 360|Dualshock 3|Sixaxis|Game|Driver|), which enables PS3 controllers to be used on the PC, as well as the option to spoof the controller into operating as 360 pad. -
Yes, it is just an issue of getting the correct driver.
Have you tried the ones under Modern Warfare 2 heading here. They should get it working. -
I used to use motioninjoy before I bought a wired 360 controller. Actually motioninjoy is what drove me to buy a 360 controller. It was just too buggy for me...not sure if it will work with a fightstick though...
As for the drivers, I messed around with all kinds of drivers already even those you mentioned, still nothing. The drivers of the joystick/fightstick install itself and it does register as a controller, but the buttons dont work at all, nor does the stick inputs.
...but according to madcatz.....
Q: My PS3 Arcade FightStick (TE and Standard) or PS3 FightPad is not working on my computer.
A: The PS3 SFIV TE/SE FightStick and FightPad does not officially support the PC, but should work with PCs that do not make use of a NVIDIA® chipset. If a workaround is discovered, we will post more information for you here. -
There is no nvidia chipset in the G73JH.. Not sure about the JW.
(Chipset referring to USB chipset, obviously..) -
edit: Apparently this: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16815166001 would get it to work on any PC...too bad theres no way of plugging it in a laptop.... -
I actually know exactly what this is in regard to. Unfortunately, I can't be as specific as I'd like to because the site I read about it on is down right now.
Basically, the PS3 version of the fightstick uses a proprietary form of USB communication. The result is that it works fine on particular chipsets (if I recall correctly, VIA is supposed to be perfect for it), but others such as that on the G73 simply do not work.
I've yet to find anything to make my limited edition BlazBlue PS3 stick work on my G73Jh. Programs like Xpadder and Pinnacle Game Profiler don't work because while the stick is recognized, none of the buttons respond whatsoever. Furthermore, I've yet to find a custom driver (I'm a big fan of Motioninjoy for using PS3 controllers on my G73) that will make the stick function properly either.
I would absolutely love to have a solution to this problem, and maybe someone here who's more knowledgeable with regard to USB specifications and standards can come up with something. I think part of the problem is that not a lot of people who want to invest in a $100+ console gaming fightstick also want to make such a stick work on a PC. There just doesn't seem to be a very large crowd of people trying to solve the problem.
The chipset issue is easy to fix on a desktop, because you can simply buy a PCI USB card that uses a chipset that works with the stick. Sadly, that's not an option for the laptop crowd.
I'll keep an eye on the site I was reading about the issue on, and provide details/links when it comes back up. Until then, maybe someone here already understands the issue and can at least point us in the right direction.
One last option that is in fact cheaper than buying a second stick (as the Xbox 360 sticks work fine on any chipset):
There are professional stick modders out there who will happily mod your stick for multi-console use. Having it modded for PS3/360 usage would solve the issue. I actually asked one such modder for a price estimate on making mine PS3/360 compatible, and he quoted the job at--I believe--$80. Not a great option, and I'd much rather just have the thing work on my PC as-is. But it's an option nonetheless.
EDIT:
I found what I was looking for. I'll paste some here, and provide a link as well.
I really hope this helps people understand the problem, and possibly come up with some kind of workaround to it. -
Thanks alot for the info Shadyn. Thats pretty much everything in a nutshell.
I actually just considered doing the dual-mod today, but i'd rather not as I'm not experienced in such things.
Like you mentioned, there just isn't a very large amount of people trying to solve the problem, and you gotta take into account that maybe half (or even alot more) of people that have the issue have a PC in which they have a $10 or less fix for. The laptop owners (for now at least..) are generally screwed.
I can only hope that since SF4 Arcade Edition is due for the PC very soon, more people will start to look into this again and hopefully find a work-around for us laptop owners...until then, im hoping someone in these forums has an idea of how to get this to work....
Is there absolutely no way of getting this to work on my g73?
