Hi guys, long time Alienware user looking to "switch sides" :) As the title said, I'm wondering if I can add an mSATA SSD in the G75VW as it would really sell me on the unit.

    Thanks.

It does come with an MSATA Socket yes.

But you do realise you will be downgrading your GPU going from a 6990M to a 660/670M.

Very true... I'm actually in a bit of a pickle. I'm looking for an mSATA + 2 HDD bay setup, and so far only Sager and Alienware offer it. I've heard people denying there's an mSATA port on the Asus G75VW so that's what I was asking.

While I'd love a GTX 680M configuration, I won't purchase a Sager and my budget dropped significantly to be able to afford another Alienware... unless they pull out another 25% off like they did with my R3 :)

Will the GTX 670MX make it a more feasible option if Asus offers it?

Well, i can think of two other options with mSATA and 2 drive bays, but they're even more expensive than the m17x R4. I'm still baffled as to why Asus didn't include it on their G75. Oh, before i forget, have you checked the MSI GT70, maybe it has what you're looking for.

MSI does not have an mSATA option. So now I've got a vote for and on against Asus having one :)

M14x R2 does and has a GPU that can match the 660M just by overclocking and the same CPU ;) problem solved.

Maybe you mean the R3? And how does that answer my actual question regarding mSATA? You seem to think the Asus has a socket for it but tijo begs to differ ;)

Ugh... wish my R3 had mSATA.

.....no I mean the M14x R2 and it answers your question as I said because it has one and has the same CPU and a GPU which can be overclocked to the 660M which the Asus has.

I know this because I just bought one :)

I see... well, sucks that I sold mine, had no idea! Actually I had a lot of problems with that unit, more so than the R1 or R3.

Here's hoping the new Asus G75VX confirms an mSATA port.

The GT70 has two mSATA in RAID and only 1HDD after checking. :p It's kinda the opposite of what you want though.

No idea, but pull up pics of the innards of the GT70, you'll see the RAID mSATA board.

It's just a SATA connector in another form factor, you can use it for storage or as a cache provided the manufacturer didn't do something funny in the BIOS.

Was there ever a final answer to the OP's question?
I see questions about why he would want to have an mSATA drive on the Asus, other alternatives, and plenty of opinions.
There is a 'yes' but followed by an explanation that seems to indicate that the answer is to a question that was never asked. And then another answer that implies (but never states) a 'no.'

I love how gamers (and hardware enthusiasts in general) are so passionate about these types of things, but I don't think that the original question was fully resolved.
