Hi I'm new here. I'm looking into getting a gaming laptop and have been eyeing this particular model for a while and was wondering if it's a good config.

    ASUS G53SX-TH71
    Intel Core i7-2670QM (2.2GHz) Processor
    8GB DDR3 Memory
    15.6" Full HD (1920 x 1080) Display
    Nvidia GTX 560M 2GB GDDR5 Graphics
    640GB 5400 RPM Hard Drive
    Blu-ray-enabled DVD±RW/CD-RW Drive

    ASUS G53SX-TH71 Notebook PC - Intel Core i7-2670QM 2.2GHz, 8GB DDR3, 640GB HDD, Blu-Ray Player, 2GB GDDR5 Nvidia GTX 560M, 15.6 Display, Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit, Black at TigerDirect.com

Everything looks good except for the hard drive. Is the video card good?

The 2gb version is the gimped version of the 560 if im not mistaken. I would look for the 1.5 or 3gb version. By gimped I mean it has a 128 bit bus width instead of 192.

Nope it is not for the reasons explained above.
    There's no g53sx with a 1.5/3gb gtx560m thought: better you stick for a g53sw like mine.
Remember that gtx560m = gtx460m. The difference is just a 100mhz clock speed.
If you really want the 560m that bad you need to look for a g74sx.
Otherwise forget for the 53sx as I said an look for an SW instead.
Just be sure that gpu VRAM is either 3gb or 1.5gb.

Thanks guys! So what's the difference between the different current models?

    G53SW-XA1
    G53SW-A1
    G53SX-XA1

    Which one should I get?

    Go for the XA1. It should have a dual 500gb XT Hybrid (/4GB SSD), a full gtx460m 1.5, 1080p, Blueray+dvdrw combo,8gb of ram.

Im not sure what A1 lacks, maybe blueray drive and less hdd, dunno.

Mine in sig should be the XA1 in the US. As we said, forget about the SX.

Kingpinzero...I think what he said is true. The 2gb gtx560m is gimped, i believe.

    ?
Mate i dont recall saying the contrary, have you wrong quoted someone lol?

I said that theres no SX G53 with a full gtx560m. By full i mean either 3 or 1.5gb versions, look ive stated this three times already.

also i suggested to stick with an SW instead, due to the SX having a gimped card.

His link says it's a 2gb GTX560M. And in your first post (post #3), you said there's no SX with a 2gb card so i thought you meant it wasn't gimped. My bad. Sorry.

I dont think the hybrid drives are included, its just a 500gb 7200rpm drive.

The differences in in the G53SW-XA1 and A1 mainly is the A1 will have 2yr parts/labor warranty vs 1yr, and A1 will come with backpack and mouse while XA1 has neither.

The G53SW-XA1 and G53SX-XA1 are similar except for the GPU which you guys have already described

Cheaper for less. And cheaper because the cooling is not as nice. And Clevo have the worst keyboard of any laptop brand right now. Everything from no backlit to just the most moronic keyboard layout.

I think it's grand that Clevo provides so much options, but the cooling system and the keyboard are two things I can't abide by from Clevo. That's me personally.

Anyway, there is no substitution for the Asus cooling system. Bottom remains cool and the fan noise is minimal. Nothing from Clevo can match that and totally worth the extra cost if somehow you get a Clevo for less.

I see, thanks for the info Hutsady.
As i said im living in europe and we dont have so much configurations. Afaik mine is the top spec version at least here, 2 drives, BR, 2 years+1 accidental etc etc.
Dont know which model translates to mine in the states. I thought it was the XA1?
