Hi guys. I am looking for a new laptop and came up with a few options. I am currently looking at the ASUS G53SX-DH71
    Specs:
    Intel Core i7-2670QM 2.2GHz
    15.6" 1920x1080
    12GB DDR3 RAM
    750GB 7200RPM Hard Drive
    Nvidia Geforce GTX 560M 2GB

I am wondering if this is a good laptop in terms of build quality, performance, battery life etc.. How are the temperatures on these things? I have no experience with Asus laptops.

I live in Canada with a budget of around ~1500, my other choice is Clevo/Sager and their lineup. I am wondering how this stacks up to it.

With that budget, I'd go with Sager. I have a G53SW and I really like it, but from working with Sager's website and reading about them on these forums, they seem like a very good brand.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not bashing Asus (my 53sw works great), but the Sagers allow more customization in terms of price vs performance and I believe are easier to open up to install new components.

Anyone please correct me if I'm wrong.

Also, I know that the G53SX has a shortened bus for it's GTX 560M whereas a Sager will not.

Definitely go for a Clevo/Sager. I also don't like the screen on that laptop.

The 2gig version of the 560m is 128bit and cant push most of the latest games fast enough at 1920x1080.. so that particular model is kind of at odds with itself. I looked at that one among others, but decided to go with G74SX-RH71 because it had the 3gig 192bit GPU and same processor. The G74s are larger and slightly easier to overclock as well, because they have more airflow... actually they have excessively excellent airflow and temperatures. Chances are you will never feel the computer getting hot, and the GPU will never pass 70C even overclocked.

If you dont mind the size and extra weight of 17in laptops, that ones definitely a better way to go, sale or no sale.

with the sager np8150 or np8170
for $1500 you could already get the ATI 6990m which is comparable to the 580m and much much better than the 560m

    If I had $1500 to burn on a laptop I wouldn't settle for anything less than a 6990M or a GTX 580M.

As other's said grab a Clevo, Better yet a 8170, I bought one a couple months back and it was very worth it, however i did a lot of upgrades through the site, so it was much more than 1500 but you can add a better cpu, and other upgrades, it's worth it :)
