So I have noticed that when I started playing games, including those that used to run fine on the same settings, there is almost a constant fps drop. This is across all games.

I reformatted the thing. No dice.

I took the laptop to bestbuy (where I purchased it) and they said they did a hardware diagnostic and it passed.

They told me the OS is corrupted, and wanted to charge $170 to reinstall it. I told theme I reinstalled the OS before I brought it to them, to which they told me I was wrong. I declined the service.

    This is their log file:

I also looked at temperature.(Using Everest) Idle shot:

I really would like to get to the bottom of this. Thanks for the help in advance.

That's generally from nvidia throttling @105C.

First of all don't spend the $170 for re-install this won't help.

This is most likely a GPU heat issue as previous posts have stated.

See if the problem doesn't happen as much when the room is cooler (at night? in the basement?)

Since the g60vx is vented from the bottom a laptop cooler can help.
At least it did for me.

I am using a lian-li model but any cooler with a sufficient fan will work.

I think the Thermaltakes are popular too.

Of course there are lots of articles here about repasting. Repasting the g60
doesn't require as much teardown as the g73 models.

You should also verify that the GPU is really overheating by using a monitoring program of some kind. I am using EVGA precision.

How would you repaste the g60vx? I looked around and there aren't really any tutorials, and I am not familiar with the concept.

There are tonnes of tutorials for similar laptops. A g50/g51 repaste/teardown will show you how to do it, they're the same computer with different monitor sizes.

Try the "READ HERE BEFORE POSTING" Thread at the top of the forum. Also linked here. It's got some relevant links, and specifically states that the G60 is the same chassis as the G50/G51.

If you still can't find anything, come back to this thread and ask again. Also, it's commonly considered polite to do your own research, which includes reading the giant, ALL CAPS thread called http://forum.notebookreview.com/asu...s-useful-threads-read-before-posting.html#g60

The mods aren't paid, they put all those links together so we can easily find the information we're looking for.
