    Hi,

I probably should have started registering to forums a year ago, but hopefully better late than never. I have had my Asus G73JH for about a year and it has become more and more useless throughout the year as I bought it for gaming and I cannot update the ati drivers under any circumstances. I have spent at least 80hours the last few weeks reading forums and finding fixes. This is what I have done and what has not worked.

    Updated to Bios 213, 211
Updated Vbios with Asus GSOD fix
Reinstalled a new copy of win7 pro
downloaded latest copies of ati drivers 10.2, 11.10

These are only the latest steps I have tried I have done much much more than that. Seems like Im not the only one who got screwed over by asus lack of support.

If anyone has any ideas you would save my life, I have a few new PC games including BF3 that are collecting dust fast along all the other pc games I bought this last year.
Also what I really dont get is, after updating BIOS and VBIOS and than completing a full install of windows 7 I run the installer for ATI CCC 11.10 and it installs driver ver8.9?? How can it be embedded so deep in the system that even after format and a new install of windows it still automaticly installs verision 8.9 and not the 11.10(which is what I am installing*11-10_mobility_vista_win7_64_dd_ccc_ocl*

 As you can see my ati drivers are stuck at 8.9 and my Vbios is up to date

    Thanks in advance!

8.902 could actually be the driver 11.10. The full build string would be: 8.902-111012a-127455C-ATI
Can you post a screenshot of the new CCC with the Software Information screen?

    Yeah it is
    Driver Packaging Version:8.902-111012a-127490C-ATI
    Catalyst Version:11.10
    2D Driver Version:8.01.01.1199

Thanks for the quick reply. I guess I have just been in freak out mode over my GSOD problems. Truth be told I havent tried to play any of the newer games sense I updated the vbios. I just kept seeing driver version 8.9 and everyone was referring to version 11.xx

I'm re-downloading bf3 now to test it out and probably a fulmark test.

If this means my G73JH blues are truley gone...I may be able to die in peace... :p

*I've gone with Nvidia for 90% of my machines, so I apologize for not understanding how the driver verisons work on ati.

Here's what the CCC info should look like with the latest driver installed. You are probably confusing the driver version and catalyst version. 11.10 only refers to the month the new driver was released and is also used as the Catalyst version number, not the actual driver version.

Just because the catalyst package is designated 11.10 doesn't mean that the actual driver files are going to have that same number. They're two different things and there are alot of other things that the programmers can change to improve the driver package.

Thanks Confirmed it with mine and it's a perfect match. I'm just crossing my fingers that the vbios & bios updates is all I needed to get my gpu running newer games again.

There does seem to be a lot of confusion about this around the web. Mainly why I thought that the 11.10 was the actually driver verision is because there are many threads on different forums with people claiming to have the same problem.

Once again thanks for the response, I'll update on gsod fix forum if it all works.

Man do I feel dumb now..

No need to feel dumb, we all make mistakes and we all started with little knowledge. Heck, i sometimes try to install/use 64-bit software on friend's computers that have 32-bit versions of windows because i ditched 32-bit long ago and i sometimes forget that not everyone is on 64-bit vista or 7 yet. Asking was the right to do even if the answer was simply.

Sometimes poeple do have these problems especially with laptops and with older graphics cards.
The catalyst driver app posted on the AMD website is actually a download manager/installer that looks for the GPU ID and then downloads and installs the actual drivers and associated files and apps.
But if your GPU isn't on the list or the installer can't find it then it won't install the drivers.
Sometimes AMD will skip a month for the mobility version and laptop owners will try to download the regular version.
There are even manufacturers whose laptops are blacklisted. In that case they're only choice is to download a modded version.

Did you try to reformat your hard drive? I usually using Asus recovery mode to reset my hard drive and reinstalled everything. It always work for me but it takes me 3-4 hours to reinstalled my software and update window 7.
