Hi, I just recently bought a G73JH (and loving it buy the way) and have been getting numerous BSOD saying "SYSTEM SERVICE EXCEPTION". the only things i have installed was Bitdefender Antivirus and Windows 7 ultimate from home premium. Im running BIOS 213 but my vBios is not updated.

Now i read in a few posts that the windows update could have messed with it but i just want to be sure my new laptop is going to take a $#!+ on me.

    Thanks again for your info!

What version of CCC are you running? IF you are on 11.x or above you will have issues if you are still on the original VBIOS.
It would also help to download Blue screen of death (STOP error) information in dump files.
Note the download button is approx 3/4 of the way down the page
and then post a screen shot of the mini dump info.

I guess that means no, he didn't install new ATI drivers and is using the original Vbios.

OreoAftermath, if your having these problems out of the box new, I would take that notebook back to who ever sold it to you and get a new one. out of the box it should run fine. but some new games need the latest ati drivers to run and to get them to run you need to update the bios and Video Vbios, and ati drivers. but it shouldn't be giving you this kind of trouble, unless your over clocking it or doing something you shouldn't be doing. sounds like you may have gotten a lemon. don't try and live with it. there is nothing you can do really other then really contact asus or the store that sold you the notebook.

Catalyst control center is the ati driver settings program that is installed with ATI drivers. I take it your using the stocked Ati drivers? or did you try installing new ones? reason I ask that is because if you want to run any of the new drivers from ati you have to flash your vbios first.

You could try a program like whocrashed it will give you a report on what maybe caused the BCOD. it reads those files and reports back.

did you do a clean install of windows or did you just go over windows home with say windows update center.?

    Step1: update the vBios
Step2: clean install the latest drivers by downloading them from AMD.

The driver disc will only have the driver version you already have which is quite old by now. You want the latest drivers as they contain performance improvements and support for more recent games. If you are unsure about the vbios, look in the sticky, there is a link to the instructions on how to flash. There is also a video on youtube on how to do it by Asus.

You could try a clean install of the OS, but you still need some of those old files of the disc in order to get all the buttons to work. you can find everything you ever need at here.

Seeing that you said you got this notebook off of ebay. god knows whats on that dam thing. I would nuke that drive and do a clean install everything. but I would unlock the Vbios by flashing it as tijo said, I would do that first. you may have VBios 93 already. check that first. boot up the notebook, but as it start up as soon as it starts tap tap tap the delete key tell your in the bios. then read what vbios you got. it should be 012.020.000 , if you've got anything less then 012.020 you've got the old vbios. my copy was 012.017.000 something something. so I had to update it. if it says 012.020, your fine and don't need to do this.

You can't install any of the new drivers from ati unless you flash update the vbios. if you send it back to asus they will update the vbios, anyway. just read the steps very carefully and you should be fine, it's not that hard. just read the steps... also a little video shows you how to do it.

driver sweeper seems to remove all of the hard to find amd/ati drivers on this system once you've flashed your vbios you uninstall ati drivers. and run drive sweeper, and check mark amd and it should remove all the hidden files. I used it and found it was listed as AMD drivers in that program. once you uninstall reboot and you should be good to go.
