So I'm finally upgrading to a new screen. I have the 1600x900 AUO screen, I wasn't particularly discontent with it but I've gotten an unholy amount of dead pixels as of late so it's kind of forced my hand now. The forum looks like a freakin' circus right now but that's neither here or there. Took me awhile to narrow down what exactly I wanted, I was either going to get a 900p LG, 1080p AUO or 1080p Hannstar. I didn't want to go beyond 900p but after reading some posts I figured that the Hannstar would probably give me the most noticeable visual upgrade. The price difference between the two wasn't that huge from what I've seen.

Why question is, for those that upgrade, where'd you buy your screens from? I'm looking around on Google and frankly all the websites look kind of sketchy. Any suggestions on where I can pick one up?

This is one site I saw but I've got no idea if they're reliable: HANNSTAR HSD173PUW1 LAPTOP LCD SCREEN 17.3" Full-HD LED $129.99

God I wish we had 1080p prices like that over here in the UK.

Im struggling with my research here in the UK and cant find anyone that has found a good cheap reliable UK seller that they converted the BB 900p screen into 1080p. Using their dead pixel calculator on that link you quoted says they will not accept a return unless it has more than 10 dead pixels. Scary.

Dude... Hanstar screens are a bit Dimm 180 Nit. You want to get any of the AUO 1080. They are the best. B173HW01. There are different versions but they are all great.

    B173HW01 V.0 = Glossy - 72% Color Gamut - 300 Nit Bright
    B173HW01 V.4 = Glossy - 95% Color Gamut - 300 Nit Bright
    B173HW01 v.5 = Matte - 72% Color Gamut - 300 Nit Bright

V.4 Is the best in terms of color gamut. Great for editing photos and stuff like that if your a PhotoShop User, or graphic designer.

I have the V.5 Installed on my G73. Its the best matte screen i've seen so far in person.

    Okey dokey nice info.

I have found a seller in the UK

    AU OPTRONICS B173HW01 V.5 17.3

Is this the one? I might as well go for it and replace my 900p glossy. I dont like the glare I get from it and want 1080p!

A 1080p panel is one of the best things you can do for your G73 to be frank. You'd love it.

Make sure to avoid any light bleeding and voila, epic laptop becomes beyond epic.

As far as I've gleaned, the new AUO 1080p screens and the older Hannstars (from the 1080p) are the ones to go.

I messaged the seller as they look legit £105 delivered though. I do quite like the glossy but just would rather have a matte so that I didnt have any glare.

What is the colour gamut of the stock 1600x900 AUO?

Its 60 Color gamut for stock 900P Screen on g73.

Here is the site with the specs:

    AUO - TFT-LCD

The viewing angles and brightness are bad. Thats why people hate it so much.

I can vouch for the bad viewing angles... I game on my couch most days with a lapdesk and if I slouched or sat up, the colors would get crazy distorted... Rocking a auo v0 now, and I am much happier.
