I am picking up a G73JW-A1 from xoticpc tomorrow...but I am an ATI/AMD guy...which is why I am not sure if I wan't the JH-B1 model from newegg...it's cheaper there then xoticpc BUT it seems that it's prone to overheating and I don't want to have to repaste a brand new laptop.

So my question is this...and it's probably been answered a hundred times...

    But should I go JH-B1 or JW-A1?

The usb 3.0 etc aren't factors...it's purely based on performance and if the JW-A1 is gonna overheat just like the JH? If so I'll go JH. If they figured out how to keep that fermi based inferno running a little cooler then the AMD then I guess it's JW.

The G73JW temps have been great so far from what users have posted.

If just going by pure performance, an almost guaranteed 800/1100 overclock under 80C after 4 hours of gaming, go with the AMD equipped G73jh

But yes there is almost 99% chance you'll have to repaste if you want that kind of temp with G73jh.

But if you don't want to flash a new vbios and not repaste, then I would go with the G73JW. There shouldn't be any new games out other than Metro2033 that would give your 460M any issues.

    Good luck.

The JH will eventually need to be re-pasted, maybe immediately after buying it. The JW will run cool without repasting. I bought a June Manufactured JH in September and had to repaste immediately, temps over 100c. It runs great repasted and I'm very happy with it, but it is a project. If you want it to run perfectly from day one get the JW. If you don't mind a little work, get the JH.

My JH came from asus (first one, AND most recent one) running at 86 max. Which is the same as the JW review unit from notebookcheck.net

So, as far as I can tell, there is no " heat " difference between the JW and JH (but I havn't tried a JW personally ...)

I second this. The temperatures on my JH are great. Currently idling at 58, 80 max under stress. The touchpad and keyboard on the other hand...

I own JH model and actually never had a problem with temps.. but I still decided to do a repaste... before repaste I was idling at 59-61.. then I repasted it with ICD7.. im getting 47-49 now... still depends on ambient... its getting hot now here in cali somtimes so sometimes i get 50 on idling... furmark gave me a maximum of 79C... playing BFBC2 for couple of hours reaches 70+..

The JW still has some overheating, but a much lower occurrence than the G73JH. It's probably on par w/ the M15x stock paste job now.

JH overheating is completely overcome with a repaste, and it isn't half as painful as people make it out to be. Just give Xotic a call, I bet they would help you with a decent deal (not sure if they price match) and you can get them to repaste it for you.
