Heya, i just bought the G55vw and right now this is my first ever gaming laptop:thumbsup: that i could afford on my salary for now, and im very concern about it. I have 7 days time to test out this baby, and can return it should i found any problem at all. For now i have checked everything, which is wireless, pixel, Harddisk, GPU, keyboards and etc... the only thing left for me to check is the fans and im not that tech savvy girl, so how do i know if my fans function properly??? is there any program that i can utilise to check my fans?? for now i have installed 2 type of program which is Furmark for gpu temp and Fanspeed program

however, both of the program does not detect my fans... for furmark when i was running the GPU test, it only show the temp for my GPU and the fans statistic is 0%

whereas for Speedfan program; the only thing that it shows, is that, my gpu and cpu temps but when i click on the Configure button then go into the Fans or Speed tab, it didnt show anything at all... regarding my fans.

is it suppose to be like that?? i read somewhere in an online article, that Speedfan program sometimes detect the fans and sometimes no, whereas Furmark program, were meant to only detect temps and the statistic for fans are meant to be 0%.

that is for the program part... now for the physical testing, when im gaming on my WoW for an hour or so, i do notice that there is an airflow through the back.. so thats mean the fans are working

any help would be appreciated and thank you for ur time to read my post, sorry to trouble y'all. Any tips on what i should check again since its my first gaming laptop... so really concern about it, never have i ever bought something so expensive... so wanna really take good care of it :D :D

As far as I know, Speedfan cannot detect or change fan speeds on Asus laptops due to bios restrictions.

If the fans were not working properly, your GPU would overheat very quickly and Furmark would not be possible.

Edit: HWInfo64 properly detects fan speeds if you are concerned. You still cannot change them though.

Edit edit: Just kidding, Hwinfo also does not properly detect the fan speeds.

Thats normal, the programs will not show the fan speed or allow you to control them.

Notebook manufacturers create their own EC which controls everything from fan speed to battery charging and then customise how it balances the system. It means most implementations are pretty custom and 3rd party software wont be able to access it or change it even if it is technically possible.

thank you for the very informative reply, now i know that the fans can't be detected by software... so i have to like, physically tested it right?? if im gaming for an hour or so, then should i hear the fans noise... so it means that the fans are working properly???? question; how do u guys clean the fans?

The easiest way to clean the heatsink is to hold the fan still and blow compressed air through the vents.

If you really want to see if the fans are working use a tissue and hold it behind the vent, if it moves in the air current that means the fan is running. Just because you cannot hear the fan it does not mean that it is not running. If the system stays at a good temp then just go with it.

Well when you use a system you should get to know how it sounds, what the vents feel like, you can get an idea of how efficient the heatsink is by just looking at your temperatures.

thank you for the response guys, the fans are working great and the notebook is really silent which is amazing ^_^

i just saw that the G55 have a special audio feature which is the EAX and THX, how do i activate it? because it seems to me that some of the vids i watch, have a low noise even when the volume at full blast. well the sound isnt that LOW but comparing to my previous notebook the DELL 15 XPS, it seems that the dell have much more rich audio and seems louder?
