It has 1 dead pixel total on the very botton far left. It is the AU screen. Now this is my 3rd try with Best Buy and the G73. What should I do?
By the way I ordered it online.
-
I went through two of them myself. Poor build quality and terrible Asus support. Can't tell you what you should do, but I picked up a G60JX and I love it!!! In fact, I just ordered an i7 820 cpu for it and although it doesn't have the ATI 5870 gpu, the size of the unit and build quality make up for it. Best of luck buddy!
-
See I would pick up a G60JX, but I already have a G60VX and i heard it beat the G60JX buy a slight margin.
-
it sounds dum but have you called tech support?
-
You could try "waking the pixel up". I don't know what it's actually called, but in the past what I did was made the area of the screen bright white and with a white mouse pointer, I circled it around and through the area of the pixel until it "woke up" and started working. Grant it, I did this with a CRT, so I don't know if the same thing can be done with a LED screen. Worth a shot I suppose.

Don't think people learn not to get from Worst Buy. Other then that not all is bad.
-
I returned it 5 mins ago. They gave me another giftcard for $1,289.99. No more Asus for me.
-
You should try to get your cash back and buy from somewhere else.
-
The BB versions of the g73 have terrible AU screens on some, there's a huge thread on why you should avoid them and how to make sure you get an LG screen in the one you pick up by checking the part number on the box.
Of course you could also have gone for an A1/A2 and gotten one of the best screens available on a laptop.
Why you did this 3 times is beyond me. -
They would only give me a giftcard.
-
Sorry to hear about your bad luck. At least you got your money back in some form.
-
They will give you your cash back, they have the ability to do whatever they want. Just explain to them how many you have gone through and what not. I just returned a 7 month old gateway laptop that I didnt even buy an extended warrantee on but it had dead pixels all over the screen and they gave me store credit.
-
Doesn't asus offer ZBD on BB laptops?
-
I don't believe ASUS is the problem, I think your problem is with Best Buy. Considering the circumstances, I see no reason why you couldn't have demanded a full refund. Best Buy giving you another gift card just further illustrates the problem.

A single dead pixel is considered "acceptable" by retail standards. I think most companies have a rule that unless its 2 or more pixels or in the center of the screen your stuck with it.
So at least they did not hassle you and gave you a gift card. I had Dell try to not replace a U2410 monitor I bought there high end premium monitor that comes with a higher form of defect warranty than standard monitors and they tried to pull that same crud on me. Saying it was within spec.... Asus has always taken care of me, Dell can go to hell.
Best thing to do is from here forward buy a "real" Asus from a reseller and not a watered down X' version from brick and motor stores like Best Buy.
Any of the resellers here always fight your battles for you if there is a problem with a laptop, plus the A models are always better than the X models. -
I have the X3 with the 1080p screen and dual 320GB drives. Don't face any issues if at all.
Only thing I'm pissed about is the bloody shipping cost and the 33lbs box Amazon shipped to me. F**king 33lbs. -

Well "watered down" is a subjective term. I consider the A models the standard since thats what Asus sends to its resellers, and anything else to be a watered down version of it.

LCD and LED screens have the same technology , just the backlight is different.
LCD = CCFL tubes
LED = Led obviously, could be side led (most screens) or full led backlit (very expensive screens) -
