Hey guys, looking into purchasing a G73. Looked around and saw some great models and deals. Just wanted to ask two things... 1: I know they sell the ROG G73 backpack, is that the best backpack for the laptop? Or are there better aftermarket backpacks in anyone's experience.

And 2 how good is this deal?

    Appreciate it,Thanks in advance

for the 1, i have 2 bags for my G73, the one that came with it and a alienware backpack, after the 2 firsts weeks that i used AW backpack the stiches of some places became loose and the thing ripped apart in 2 places, then switched to the original backpack, 6 months of total ABUSE and nothing has happened to the G73 Backpack, and when i say abuse, i mean it, i stuffed the thing up several times and forced the side holder to fit bottles of 1.5 litters and nothing has ripped apart or something.

The included backpack works if your are transporting the lappy and PSU, and maybe a couple of other things. If you need to carry more, that's when 3rd party bags come into play. I've gone through several bags looking for one that's perfect, and currently I use an Everki Beacon.

    1) I have a Dell branded M17 bag that has a lot of room, and padded real well, but it's huge on my back.

    2) Then went to Targus XL. Lots of room, but it becomes fat fast. Also, not the best padding for protection.

    3) Everki Beacon: fits what I had ion the Targus, but stays thin and controllable. Padding is very adequate, and it's not huge on my back. So the bulk on my back remains manageable.

Another popular option are the Slappa Bags.

If possible try and find someone selling the G70S official bag because I have had it 2 years and its in mint condition, solid as a rock and is very very well made I take it everywhere. It also looks the dogs.

Apart from that G73SW is a good choice, noooooo Best Buy though.

Its the 1080p laptop with this in the specs "NVIDIA® GeForce® GTX 460M, with 1.5GB GDDR5 VRAM", I'm pretty sure that means the 192 bit bus.

Thanks a lot for the recommendation, Ill look around. And the reason I want that specific model is it comes loaded like the G73SW-A1, but with windows 7 pro, and with a 3 year warranty. And, honestly, looking at the forums and hearing about some of the problems people have with the laptop, I want the longest warranty for my money.

Yeah I know it came with my G70s and the proper Razor Copperhead. When I sold the laptop I kept both because they are just awesome. :( keep an eye out though just in case someone lists it for sale.

I would recommend a clean intall of win 7 after doing an out of box image to a USB hard drive.
    OR http://forum.notebookreview.com/asus/380681-asus-utility-bloatware-guide.html
this thread will let you know what to get rid of from the factory image if you do not want to do a clean install. I ran for 6 months on the factory image following this link, then did cave and did the clean install.
Now I have 9 entries instead of the original 20 or so in the factory image.

Awesome, I'll follow the link, then upgrade to a full ssd in a while. Asus Bios doesnt handle RAID0 right?

g73jh had many problems most /all of which were ultimately fixed. g73jw and g73sw were a god send and were practically problem free with a VERY low retrun / defect rate. this forum has an inane ability to make a good product sound bad mostly with advice which causes more harm then good particularly to the new or not so versed reader.

I do not want to flame up here, but I disagree. Based on one if the original reviews I purchased mine. I have read tons of positive stuff here on the entire G Series, not so much positive on ASUS phone support, the forum that is linked with their site ASUSTeK Computer Inc.-Forum- , and RMA nightmares. I do not know how you can say 'this forum'; the fact that there are many very savy users that caught bugs like the FN ESC issue (fixed via BIOS which if done with the version of WINflash available at the time bricked more than one machine.
I could go on but the thanks to the regulars here I am satisfied with mine, finally.

Haha, Im new to these forums, but I've been flamed on plenty others. I just like the one year longer warranty. Hopefully I can get the price a little lower as Im looking for a ceiling of 1300. And I've noticed that the JH had the most problems. Really looking forward to buying this laptop. Appreciate the help, Thanks!

i am not here to defend their service department. there is a reason why we encourage our customers to always contact us first. I am simply saying that the g73sw was "defect free". i am not saying that it was problem free. I do not consider a minor issue picked up by a rare user as a defect. I am simply saying that from a return / doa persepective that the g73jw and g73sw were a god send. You also have to keep in mind that these notebooks are typically purchased by very demanding and knowledgeble users. Nothing is perfect i know that but this notebook was very well near. If i had to compare the g73jh to the g73sw there is no contest. the jh was practically a lemon in its infancy. g73sw by comparison is perfect and needed no bios or any kind of troubleshooting for 99 out of 100 users while g73jh was for the most part problematic for a large minority. Needless to say i am generalizing. If i had to consider ONLY forum posters and active forum users on this particular forum then yes those statistics will change to the downside. Lucky for me a very very small part of our customer base comes from this forum and others. You are welcome to disagree however you should realize that as a vendor it is my job to keep careful statistics. My statistics say that g73sw was an ideal laptop in terms of the lack of problems. g53jw for example was not. it had a few prominent issues that i would have loved not to exist.
