Hello everyone i just bought this laptop at my local best buy, I know that it has a "gimped" 560M but other than that is there anything else i should know? Any software updates that need to be installed or which software should i remove? Any issues with this laptop? Thanks.

Read the boatware guide sticked on the main asus forum

However you have it now so enjoy it.
This section covers everything you need to know about the G74SX. The important threads are filtered out by mods so its good to have a read through them.

What about the Intel software, should i just leave it or uninstall it?
-
@OP Leave drivers and software alone just get rid of the bloatware, there are posts explaining how to create a bloatware free windows installation in the thread above, but you can just spend some time uninstalling it if not. -
I went with this to start:

950 Core Clock / 1900 Shader Clock / 1500 Memory Clock

Still not bad for a grand though. -

You have not used Default settings that is why your result is so high those GPU results are above my 5870M.
You must use the Default settings and resolution to provide a fair comparison. For that you will need an external output however -
I just wanted to say that yesterday i played Battlefield BC2 and Civ 5 on this laptop and the games run better than on my old desktop at highest settings
On my desktop i had a Phenom II X3 720, 6GB of ram and a Geforce GTX 470 I used to run games at 1920x1080 at highest settings and even though i can't do 1080p on this laptop I'm really happy that the games run better -

Dallers is right, you need to bench at 1280x1024.
At 720p I'm doing 17120pts with 814/1628/1600.
@Aztek87: that's because you're running your games at 900p, which is a more easier resolution to handle. Also your old desktop CPU cannot compare with the 2630qm, which will kill it basically on every benchmark you throw at it.
If you want a direct comparison, replace your desktop CPU and mobo even with an entry sandy bridge processor such i5-2400 or i5-2500. Althought it's 4 cores compared to 4/8 threads of the 2630qm, in conduction with the gtx470m it will eat your laptop for breakfast.
Clearly your old CPU is the bottleneck, your gtx470 needs more juice to really shine, and still is a wonderful card. -
With what I paid for this laptop the performance is completely satisfactory and allows me to purchase several for our weekly LAN parties without going broke in the process. -Goodspeed
ETA: Here is another run done back-to-back with the last. 15972 at 1280x1024 is not to shabby. http://3dmark.com/3dm06/16026181?sh...6/16026181?key=5ehXNhR4wZHTbaF6a7PCqkjvkUN8yP

Thats a really great score, none the less. Higher by a few poins than my gtx460m
but i see youre using Asus drivers, not latest ones.
Those drivers gave me higher scores in benchmark as well, but they are rather unoptimized and broken compared to latest ones.
I cant really call it a comparison, i would need to roll back to asus drivers to see how i fare against them.
Great stuff anyway! -
Im having a really tough time adjusting from desktop gaming to laptop gaming lol
Just bought ASUS G74SX-BBK7, Got questions...
