So I ordered an A3 from NewEgg and wanted to see what tips people had for getting started (and avoiding as many issues as possible).

    Here's what I found already:

    1) Remove the Creative EAX software
    2) Remove the junk they bundle with it
    3) Set the video card to performance mode to avoid PSOD

Does anyone have any other tips or suggestions for a new owner?

    Thanks

Use your machine as a gaming machine or a work machine.

Don't bother trying to set 3DMark06 or Vantage records. Seems to me a lot of these mishaps are due to user abuse.

That's a great machine, hope those hybrid drives treat you well.

Looking forward to your thoughts on HDD performance.

I've got a G71V-Q1 that I am looking to upgrade from. Currently running an Intel 160GB SSD and a WD 500GB Secondary HDD, but am looking for better GPU Performance. I can move the current SSD to my main rig.

Newegg seems to be pricing the A3 at $1,799.99. Considering their price for the A2 is $1,749.99, whereas Amazon has it for $200 less, you guys think the A3, too, will be the same elsewhere---that is, $200 less?

Yeah, but have you read this? I'll stick to my -A2.

Not sure what happened in some of those file copy benchmarks, but you make it sound like that review isn't positive. Seems every review I've seen so far has indicated that the hybrid drives are a happy, cost-effective medium between mechanical drives and expensive SSD drives. Plus, the cost difference between the A2 and A3 is as much about the blu-ray drive as it is the hybrid drives.

Agreed, and with the X2 at MC only $1499 I can add one of these drives and improve OS performance (though it's not too shabby as it is).

    Cheers,

The review basically says "Meh. Get a 7200RPM drive, you'll see about the same performance and spend $40 less".
