Hello, just got my new g73sw. This thing is very nice. But my first problem I noticed was the keyboard back light. I read some archived posts about this issue with no luck. I reinstalled the atk package from asus.com. i used the function keys(the other issue). I understand bios was an issue with the g73jh ones. Is this supposed to be an issue on the SW models? My bios is SW205.If not, is the keyboard supposed to light up when I first turn it on? Cuz mine has not ever turned on. If so, then I'm gonna assume its a hardware issue. I already pulled up the keyboard to check if they forgot to plug it in. Its in, but the cable was all twisted up and creased more than usual as if they forced it. Also the pull tab on the cable was on the bottom, is that correct?

The other complementing it is the function keys don't do anything at first, I have to press another function set and it will activate the function I tried before instead of the current function I just pushed. For example, i press fn-f9, nothing, then i press fn-f4, all of a sudden it deactivated the touchpad. So weird...

3rd issue is the second sata port isn't detecting my spare hdd in bios or windows, but i still need to verify if its just the hdd.

    Your help is greatly appreciated!!

Keyboard should always light up when you turn on the laptop. Difinitely a hardware issue if it doesn't.
Never experienced the ATK issue you're having. You sure you have the latest driver? Check the link in my sig.

TY for the quick responds. Ok so keyboard is definitely broken then .

Function problem has to be software. But the reinstall of the 2 drivers didn't fix it. Ill attempt a fresh windows install on the spare hdd to check if that works.

I swapped the hard drives and bios picked up both of them. I then swapped them back n ran into same problem. I guess sata port 2 does not like my Hitachi hdd. Oh well I can work with that. I'm afraid of RMA'ing this thing just for a keyboard. Ive had my cell phone replaced 4 times in 2 months cause my replacements always have a new more annoying issue. Guess I should just live with it n be happy i don't have those other common issues.
    .
Thank you guys for the input.

I may do an article on how to splice power to the keyboard from another power source on the mobo. That is after I check for voltage on the original plug this weekend.

That'll void the warranty. Just RMA it.

Why not RMA it or at the very least buy a keyboard and change it out? I would check the cable connection and forget what you said the above.

If the port has voltage, then yeah I'll get a keyboard off ebay before I consider RMA'ing it. Saw some for 20 bucks. But i can't check for another 2 days.

I still don't see why you don't just RMA. It's free.

I know it sounds silly. I've always had bad luck with RMA'ing things..... If I can't fix it myself, I'll send it n hope it don't come back with new problems.
Besides keyboard 25 bucks free shipping, or deal with shipping cpsts for the laptop, not to mention it having to go thru the handling of shippers two more times. I work for fedex, I KNOW how those kids in sorting handle boxes, I've watched them. They don't get paid enough to care.
