Just bought a clevo 7970m for my G73JH / What do I need for the mod? Besides the obvious

I have taken a look at the 6970m mod. Tilla and DH were nice enough to clear up some things on the guide. I originally bought a 6970m but I bought the wrong one. I will be selling that on here in case anyone is interested. My new Clevo 7970m should be arriving soon.

I have the stock CPU, Intel 720 if I remember correctly.
I have a total of 4 sticks of ram
I have a lite on PA-1151-03, 150w, is that enough for this laptop with this video card? I don't have a high end CPU so I should be fine right?
I read in the 6970m thread not to use IC4, I plan on using Arctic Silver 5
I bought some .5mm thermal pads for the memory
I also have some small heat sinks to cover the resistors (areas the heatsink wont be covering)
I will be using the stock heatsink

I read you need a special vbios, is this correct? If so, where do I get it and how do I flash it?

Any advice would greatly be appreciated.

7970m Vbios with enduro turned off

    md5: C191AA570CB58556FC1DC145DCB8F6EC

not responsible if anything goes wrong, this is the exact identical vbios that sosa sent to me. you'll need a better power supply, i suggest the alienware 240w one, you have to mod it to get it to work.

I'm assuimg the flash is done outside of windows right? Dos envirement correct? Is there a guide for this? I know its only a few commands, if you can direct me to it or write down what I need I would appreciate it.

Understood, in what way do I have to mod the ac adapter?
So the 150w will not work despite still having stock cpu?

I see there are a few version of the alienware 240w ac adapter, does it matter which one I get? The amps are significantly higher then the stock ac adapter. Would that not hurt the system?

    http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_n...earch-alias=aps&field-keywords=240w+alienware

    Something like this work?

you need ati-flash place that and the files in the zip onto a bootable flash drive and just run the .bat file it'll run all the commands for you. but be aware your going to be blind flashing. 150w might work but your watt draw will exceed it's limit which is un-safe and you may damage some things. robtherob stated before he was able to run the laptop but through testing it definitely needs a bigger ac adapter. regarding which alienware 240w ac adapter, i recommend the one that is made by delta electronics, i've heard the flextronics alienware 240w ac adapter have a higher failure rate. i suggest going over this thread:

lots of information in this thread.

Hi! I already bought one too but the topic is gone and I was wondering if I can use a 180w power supply because I already have one!
Anyone knows the comands that I need to use when I flashing? Thanks

I wonder where it went to? I contacted Allurgroceries to see if he can tell me.

Either way we will have to go off memory. You will need to modify your heatsink to help it cool it down. Rob did an iteresting one, and I'm going to see if I can duplicate it. I think that from reading that thread the 180 will work, but if you have the 920 or 940xm like I do you will want the 240W. Mine should be showing up today so I'll pop out the old soldering iron and see whats doing. The thermal tape recommended by Sosa was phobyia (sp?) so i ordered some of that, and those copper mosfets and vrm coolers. Besides that you should be good.

Rob said that he uses a mixture of artic 5 and ic7. I'm going to give that a shot and see how it works.

Thanks to Hax for giving me this file as well. Luckily I downloaded it from the original 7970M thread before it was removed.

Cuban do you know why the topic was removed?
If I use the original heat sink with coopers will work great?
    Thanks

I can't give out any more Rep rob, but when I can I will.

Didn't you say you were getting around 92C? I thought thermal shutdown was 115C. I've had around 95C in testing, but lowered my clocks. I also think my 150W PSU is a hinderance, or my installtion of windows. I plan on putting a fresh install of windows before I install the card.

How are you planning on modding the cpu heasink?

Also, I thought you had used a non-standard command to flash the VBIOS onto the card. Do you remember what it was?

@ By_cleiton: I'm not sure. I wrote Allurgroceries, but haven't heard back yet. I also thought I had surpassed 200 posts. Maybe there is an issue with the server. That would explain why robtherob lost everything and our 7970M thread is gone.

S I have a clevo hd 7970 Dell is a a no go tried it in another one the memory is the rong type lol eg different manufacturer carnt get into the bios to mod it to get the Dell one to work ever otherwise I'd have a go lol.
Also the thermal for the 940xm is 105c it will start to throttle at 100c. And as of the heatsink for the CPU I will be modding it I have put great thought into the thought of how to make a micro pump to water cool the hole laptop. As a self contained loop reads res pump blocks everything in the g73 lol it can be done n ill do it just have to wait till I have the time and as of you CPU on 150w PSU it won't be very happy on that as I bet u needed 80w of power to get high clocks and that high temp you will need a 240w to do the mod the CPU power hungry lol

I have been following this thread regarding the 7970M upgrade in g73. I have managed to get a clevo 7970m card. The vBIOS is BR43595.003 . Can you please point me in the right direction. I am not afraid to mod and flash. Just not sure how to start. I have some questions.

Is there a guide somewhere that explains exactly how to do this?
Which vBois flash with enduro off should I use?
Do I need a heatsink or any other parts to complete the exchange? Which heatsink?
What powersupply do I need . I have got a ORIGINAL Delta Genuine PA-9E 240W Power AC Adapter 330-4128 J211H Dell. Do I just need to attach the 5.5mm connector to it? Do I use the wire from the current PSU or cut the end and attach the connector?

Any other info and steps would be helpful.

    Thanks

Finally, got the 7970m clevo to work in the g73jh. Had to jumper pins 1 & 8 so tat I could bypass bios and boot with Apparently, thr clevo vbios is not recognized by the g73 bios and so you cant blindflash (USB does not boot). The jumper trick allows us to boot USB. Just remove the jumper before running flash.bat. I had to slightly overvolt and oc by flashing and modified vbios rom, to get stable. Guess 7970m needs more juice. Thanks for all the help
