Been planning this for a while. After some thinking, I decided to power the leds by soldering the leads to the light bar power source. Hope this inspires and/or helps someone!

Thanks. Unfortunately (and fortunately) I replaced the leds in the keyboard with ultrabright blue ones, but I grounded out a resistor and led in the light panel of the keyboard and blew a transistor that regulates the power to the keyboard. That's the bad part- that transistor just regulates the ground, resulting in the ability to dim. In order to get my lights back, I bypassed one of the legs on that transistor (borrowed tech from fan mods on xbox 360s). The result- no dim (never dimmed the keyboard anyway), but the white keyboard lights are noticeably brighter than before. And here I was going to ebay my rog, guess I'm going to have to take a lower price now. Oh well, the 1080p screen I'm installing tomorrow should make up the difference.

    EDIT-
The ultrabright blue leds run way too hot, so I'm also going to buy another stock keyboard and put that in.

props for messing around even if its a simple mod.

now go get one of those staples "that was easy" buttons and hack it to record your own sound of a jet taking off and wire that to the power button so when you turn it on it sounds like a B52 bomber taking off.

Take the LED's and wire them to a pent and have it as a small knob on the side of the laptop so you can manually change brightness.

Use the webcams facial recognition to have it log into windows for you so that it logs on when you look at the laptop and have a windows even start @ bootup that plays a .wav file that says in a female computer voice "Greetings Captain, welcome aboard the ship"

Now go to starbucks order some over priced coffee and sit as close as possible to some of the mac snobs and log into your G73.

Place hidden camera up ahead of time to log ressponce, then get back to me about how awesome it was.

Personally I'd just be happy if you took your G73 and used it as a sledgehammer to smash and unsuspecting Macbook in a Starbucks. Record the reactions to that, I'd be happy to watch.

Or find some dude playing Starcraft on his 17" MacBook and then you sit next to him, turn on your G73, log and go through settings so he sees you setting everything to Ultra and then play.

My G60VX has a nice graphic explosion and sound to go with it when it boots up.

That would be nice on my g73sw.

I always wondered if that would upset the TSA folks at the airport if they tried to boot my laptop.

A quick update- I recently saw a thread here referencing the afterburner light mod for the g73 from xoticpc. Unfortunately, it appears that they don't sell the mod, but is a custom feature of select laptops of theirs. Well, upon seeing the pics, I have determined (I think) that they are using neon tube lighting in the vents. I have found a set of two 2" low voltage ultra bright blue "neon plasma" (that's how it's listed, but clearly the same effect) tube lights. I ordered them. They will be here next week, as will my new keyboard and palmrest. I have come up with an alternative and much easier and efficient method of modding our keyboard colors. Next week, my g73 will be getting a cosmetic mod overhaul. I will post pics. I tried the colored film mod. It didn't work out so well. In order for me to get a rich blue, I had to use a few sheets of plastic, which dulled the brightness. Plus, the way the light panel and leds fit together, once you pull that thing apart it never sits as tight as it once did, also dimming the brightness, even with no plastic mod. So, color the underside of the keys with a semi transparent enamel paint. I used a thin layer of a very dark blue nail polish on a key on my old keyboard, and it is a rich blue, and doesn't lose much brightness. Plus, it's a lot easier to do than messing with the light panel. The pics will show what I mean. One week. I can't wait. I think I'm going to do a multicolored mod, with the wsad keys and other common gaming keys in red, the rest in blue. Or maybe light blue and dark blue. Dunno yet. We'll see.

EDIT- The light tubes I mentioned cost me $12 with standard shipping in the US, for those who are interested. Once I verify the functionality, if they are indeed functional, I will post the link. Or the part number if the ebay listing is expired.
