Hi guys, i just got my G73JH today. I would like to know what do i need to do to optimise my laptop and check for the possible problems, such as GSOD or overheat.

    Found this thread: http://forum.notebookreview.com/asu...492354-all-g73jh-problems-solutions-here.html

Before i optimise it, i need to push the rig to the maximum capacity to see whether it GSOD or overheat due to bad pasting. If it overheats, i could return it.

My current ambience temperature is about 25 degrees, and my CPU is 46 celcius. Is this normal tem[perature while surfing net?

I tried to run BFBC2 so far. Been playing for 1 hour plus. No GSOD.

On the other hand, i tried to run Fur Mark 3 times. Second time got GSOD about 5 minutes into the test, but the third time did not get any GSOD and the system remained stable after 15 minutes of Fur Mark. Not sure whats happening here.

The first run of Fur Mark is ignored, IMO, as im running with stock drivers where GSOD is unlikely.

I'll probably give Crysis a shot tomorrow.

You will want to check your BIOS version. You probably have 209, if you upgrade to 211 you will cool your GPU better (but make slightly more fan noise). It is also advisable to upgrade your vBIOS to the ones listen the GSOD thread, since I doubt your G73 came with them. That should solve your problems. If you still cannot run furmark you will need to repaste. Assuming you are running 211 BIOS, I would not be concerned unless Furmark goes over 100C. This is still really high, but it is unlikely the replacement you would get would be any better. Most games run at least 5c cooler than furmark anyway.

I do have 211 for my BIOS out of the box. Hang on, does that mean even if i have 211 BIOS, that does not mean i have the stable vBIOS that is in the GSOD Blues thread?

I have been running fur mark to push it to the limits. The maximum temperature im getting now is 85 degrees which seem decent to me. I dont think i need repaste for now.

The new vBIOS is ver 012.020.000.032.038352. You can use GPU-Z to check the version you have installed. If it doesn't match, grab the package from my sig link.

Running the Furry Donut test, in my opinion, is not an accurate representation of whether your GPU is stable. If your temperatures don't go past 90 during normal extensive gaming, there should be no reason for worry. FurMark is known to break even perfectly fine working GPUs. When you get a Lamborghini that can push 350kph, it doesn't mean that the car is broken unless it can. As long as your vBIOS and BIOS are up to date, and you get good temps after an hour of BC2, I see no reason to worry.

Chas will tell you to repaste regardless though ;)

I see the main advantage of furmark being it is very easy to setup and you know where you stand within minutes. Also it is a good benchmark for comparing performance with others. Games are more subjective.

In my opinion, i think Fur Mark is good to know where do you stand, as no games in the market will push my G73 to the maximum performance it could offer consistently.

Also, i just need to test out everything to see whether i need to return it for 1 to 1 exchange.

    Alright, just flashed my vBIOS.

Everything should be fine now. Gonna find my copy of Crysis first.

Tried Bad Company 2 for about 40 minutes.

Great performance, despite im spamming my noob tubes around to destroy some poor huts, and no GSOD so far. Can i consider the GSOD issue for my laptop is case closed for now?

    Running on 10.10 Catalyst, btw.

    Thanks a lot guys.

Congrats. I've been playing Crysis myself. I'm getting a few frames more with 10.10 very excited. This computer rocks when it works (and is a PITA when it doesn't), it just takes a little love.

Feels good,IMO, and i hope G73JH will give me far less problems than my old M1530.

Well, time to study and enjoy the fantastic sound card that comes with the laptop first. Then, i'll dump tonnes of games on it.

    Looking forward to run TF2.

One more question, why isnt any Creative software running on the background? All i see are Realtek stuff.

I notice some scratching sound coming out from right side of the laptop. Could it be one of my Momentus XT is faulty or thats normal for that scratching sound?

Is flashing the vBIOS hard? Is there a thread somewhere that shows how? I just picked up one of these too last Thursday but I am unfamiliar with all of this stuff. I saw some other threads that talk about it but none that give directions of how it's actually done.

Nope, it's not hard. Easily done, as long as you are careful with it. Also read the instructions carefully before doing anything.

2 links are shown below. One is from NBR, and the other one is from Asus RoG forums.
