So I just got my new G73JW-XT1 and was fairly excited. I've been loading stuff onto it and such, now that i'm about 6 hours into it I've got my loud desktop off and i can hear a light "flick" sound from the right fan (viewing from the back, assuming CPU fan). It sounds similar to if you had a piece of paper stuck slightly in a fan. It's just loud enough so that I can hear it. I would estimate it's at about 200BPM or more at idle. If i put my ear by the vent I can hear it very well. I tried blowing it out with canned air at no avail. From the looks of it, I can't get any closer to the fan without some fairly extreme disassembly. Also, as the fan spins faster, the noise seems to get quieter/higher pitched.

Is this fan noise normal? I know I've got a warranty, but I hate sending something brand new back in.

    Edit:
After listening some more to the other fan (GPU i'm assuming, left hand side viewing from the back) it also has this noise, but it is much more faint. Had to put my ear really close to the fan grille to hear it.

Is it keeping the temperature at normal levels at both idle and while gaming? If yes then you have nothing to worry about. If your system has some kind of High Pitch Buzzing/Whining sound but your temperature looks fine then you are just going to have to live with it or return for replacement

Temps are OK, i get a max of 74C with Turbo turned on, about 70C with it off. I guess if temps are OK, no large concerns unless it fails. I'll likely just end up replacing the fan myself and avoiding sending it in, i've heard Asus can take a long time to send back repaired laptops. Does anyone know where I can find a fan? I see some G73JH CPU fans on EBay, I assume it's the same?

Try some canned air on your fan, if it doesn't clear the noise I'd send it back for a replacement from your retailer or an RMA, whatever works. A brand new computer shouldn't have a noisy fan, even if it works fine.

I'm having the same issue with the same fan. It almost always happens while gaming. I cleaned it out the other day using a can of compressed air. It worked for a little while, but it is still there. I've also opened up the laptop and placed some lube on the fan bearing. That didn't help. I'd like to send it back to Asus. I only have a couple months left on my warranty, but I'm not sure if it is worth the risk.

Mine seems to be louder when idle since the ticking is slow and deeper in tone, then gets higher pitched when gaming and i don't notice it at much. The moving air also dulls the noise. I haven't determined what I'm going to do yet....
