    After having a defective M11x (R3) I've decided to purchase G53SW-XA1 from
Amazon for LESS than what I paid for an R3 (even with $350 off coupon). I have no idea why I didn't do that in the first place. Bigger screen, more powerful GPU. Anyway welcome me to the club, and I have to ask, anything I should know or do when I receive the laptop? Do I do a clean install of windows? Any help would be appreciated. I really think I made a good decision to return the M11x, even though I kinda liked it, it just wasn't big enough or powerful enough for the price (plus the HD failed on me after a week).

Welcome. Glad you like your new system. Doing a fresh install is a matter of preference. It isnt required, and it's debatable if there is any performance gain from doing so (I doubt it). Some people like to get rid of all the junk, I like it because it forces you to get to know all the drivers on your system and update to the newest ones. I don't know of a guide for the 53Sw, I wrote one for the 73JW in my signature, you could read it, and that would give you a general idea of what you might want to do on your system.

Goodluck. Lots of help available here. Also use search and you can usually find what you want without having to start a new topic plus you'll learn from everyone else's posts.

Hi! thanks. I did search, but there wasnt much on the 53sw, everything seemed geared towards the 73sw(even in the sticky thread)

He means that you have the new revision of the mobo because the older ones had the chipset bug.

There is a post here that explains how to check to see what revision it is however it should be the newer version if its a trusted seller.

Welcome to the Asus forum :D
